No they are not the same. There is two seperate species of fleas. There is the cat flea and the dog flea but they can be found on each other. By this i mean there can be cat fleas on a dog and dog fleas on a cat. The cat flea is known as Ctenocephalides felis and the dog flea is known as Ctenocephalides canis.
I hope this helped you.

Yes. I was recently told that all fleas are actually cat fleas, so dogs will only pick them up from a cat, or from outside.

NO they are not! everybody who has answered is incorrect they are not at all the same, dog fleas can not live off anything other then dogs, hence they do not jump onto humans and bite the skin because it is only dogs blood they are attracted to, however cats fleas are able to live on all objects including fabrics and humans hence why they are harder to get rid of and leave bites on humans! all who answered yes are complete ******* idiots and should read a book or research before they answer with the wrong answer!

dogs and cats fleas are diverse species. they offer the impact of being a similar and act a similar yet there are ameliorations that are seen below a microscope. notwithstanding, maximum flea infestations are brought about by cat fleas, so the probability is your puppy has the cat flea. It makes no distinction to the flea product used notwithstanding - she might want to nevertheless get a dogs flea clinical care.

Apparently not, though fleas will bite animals that are not their primary host.
Cat Flea: Ctenocephalides felis (Bouche)
Dog Flea: Ctenocephalides canis (Curtis)
Northern Rat Flea: Nosopsyllus fasciatus (Bosc)
Oriental Rat Flea: Xenopsylla cheopis (Rothschild)
Rabbit Flea: Cediopsylla simplex (Baker)
There are also fleas which use birds as their host. It seems there are more than 2000 species of flea recognised.
Because primates generally lack permanent nest sites and humans have only recently, relative to the 100 million years of flea history, been domesticated, there isn’t a flea species evolved exclusively to feed on Homo sapiens. The so-called human flea, Pulex irritans, actually evolved to feed on pigs. While we humans are not honored to have an exclusive flea, approximately 20 flea species will feed on us as a byproduct of our association with their primary hosts. The most likely flea to feed on us today is Ctenocephalides felis, the cat flea, which feeds indiscriminately on cats, dogs, civets, hedgehogs, and humans.
The Plague and the Black Death in England were both transmitted by fleas from human to human and rat to human (rats being a carrier of the disease).

Of course! Cats and dogs both have fleas! But the way they get rid of them is different. Cats lick their furs and dogs just scratch them!

Yes they are! But when treating them, please make sure that you use medication specific to the cat or dog. Having worked in the pet industry I have heard too many horror stories of people using dog flea products on cats which resulted in the cat having serious health problems or even dying. So please don't be tempted to use the dog products.

Yes, they will jump from cat to dog and vice versa. If you go to a friends house and they have fleas there, they can jump on your clothes and then you end up bringing them home with you.

Yes. BUT! the chemicals to treat them are different - mostly because cats and dogs have different chemistry and, as far as I know, using a dog-only medicine on a cat may kill the cat.
