Unless you live in Alabama, you must go to an accredited college to become a hygienist. You must have a year of prerequisites and be excepted into the program. Then, depending on the program, it is usually 2 years. You then take a national board and a state board for the state you want to work in.
Sorry no way of doing that any other way, as some of what you learn is hands on. No on the job training. That is unless you live in Alabama where they have a program that essentially trains you on the job.

Go to dental assistant school...it is about 9 months long here in Texas.... (the hygienist school looks for assistants that have been out in the field as a plus when choosing hygiene students.) THEN apply to go to hygienist school...... ; )
when you will apply to go to hygienist school it will be an additional 2 years, depends on the program of the college in your state, ours is 2 years.
good luck...

Go to adha.org. There you will find info about schools that offer dental hygiene program. It usually takes two years. I'm planning to be a dental hygienist as well so good luck, to both of us.
