ego is boasting and pretending you're better than everyone, self-respect is knowing you're strong and assured.

Ego is acting and believing you are better than most people, self respect is having certain moral boundaries for your self and not breaking those self held rules due to peer pressure, or praise from others. You know who and what you are and you dont need external influences telling you. Ego needs the external input.

I think self-respect is knowing your good. Ego is needing others to know your good.

Ego is when you take care of yourself instead of ME! (Just joking.)
Egoist is somebody who takes care of himself and nobody else. Self-respect is when you know who you are and don't want to be other than you.
I think this is the most significant difference between the two things.

Ego is when you boast about yourself (to cover up that you don't feel good enough) Self respect is more low key, you feel OK about yourself and don't have to prove a thing to anyone.

I tend to think of ego as how you feel about yourself and self-respect relates to how you allow others to treat you.

Some amount of ego is good. Too much is bad. You can't have too much self-respect.

Self-respect tells you that you are important, ego tries to tell you that no one else is.
