Depending on how hard u hit the cat, it probably won't die. But you could have caused serious damage somehow to the cat. What iz yo malfunction anyway, what did a cat do 2 u to make u hit it with a welly? U should feel awful, shame on u. LOL

The question is how hard did you smack it, and where (not forgetting why, but that doesn't affect the cat's chances of survival due to this one attack - it might affect its chances of getting smacked by you again though).
Was the cat bleeding after you whacked it? Did it limp, or walk/run away in an awkward manner? Did it collapse? Without an examination it's difficult to tell whether it will die, but in most cases a cat would not die from one whack of a welly.
But don't whack the cat again.

I think it would be a good idea and track you down which you live in the UK - makes it easier, and hit you with the welly over and over to your head.

I think that it should be fine, but it also depends on how hard you smacked it. A welly is a wellington for all the people who are asking!

as much as im p****d off you hit a cat i have to say i do find the fact you hit it with a large green welly really funny! he he he.
The poor thing will probably be in shock for quite a while but no it wont die...lucky for you!!

Perhaps next time, chuck some water over it. Cats hate that, but it has less chance of hurting them and less chance of you ending up getting smacked by the owner if they find out.
