This is most likly to be an spyware or advertising program. They link into your searches on Google, etc and supply 'relevant' advertising. Most of these companies have agreements amoungst themselves to install other software. You do need to take some action to remove them.
Firstly the easiset method is to look in the add/remove programs in the control panel. Remove any program that looks like an advertising process. e.g. Hotbar, Weather On Tray, XXX Toolbar, Surf Relevancy, My Web Search, My Way, Smiley Central, Fun Web Products, New Net Domains, Zango, etc, etc. If you do not recognise a program do a Google/Yahoo search.
Secondly, download the following programs
Ad Aware http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1
Spybot http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1
and HijackThis http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1
Install and run the first two programs and update them from the internet. This should clear up the spyware and adware programs from your computer.
If you still have a problem run HijackThis and Scan, check every line that it produces on Google/Yahoo and remove any bogus entries (by placing a tick next to the line and clicking Fix).
If the problem persists then it may be a virus! Download and install AVG. http://free.grisoft.com

Most of the time your specific settings are held in a configuration file or maybe even a cookie. If you have installed / Uninstalled or even updated software recently this may have caused it.
That said, an update may have simply turned the toolbar you wanted off. Look in your browser settings for you toolbars and see if it is still there.

Click view at the top of your browser. Then toolbars - make sure there is a tick next to all those you want. Under Tools you can click internet options and change your home page if that has changed.

The answer to this is probably spyware/adaware. They often change your homepages and add/delete content within your browser. Download AdAware SE or other similar programs to fix this.

Definitely some spyware/adware on your pc. It's happened to me. Go to safety.live.com and install their Free scanner, this will scan for any viruses and spyware/adware and remove whatever it finds. You can use this tool as many times as you want but don't rely on it to be your one and only protector. Good luck.
