An atheist will definitely go to hell. Satan has atheists to make money and to do good works to add confusion to the nonbelievers, the noneducated Biblically, and the weak Christians so they can't commit fully to Christ. Satan is a wiley critter and has confusion as one of his greatest tools against God! My uncle was an atheist who did good works but his was the saddest funeral I have been to. There were no prayers or hymns of encouragement for his family, just a few other volunteers saying what he had done. It was an earie atmosphere with everyone knowing that he hadn't made the choice to follow Christ and that he was in hell. It is hard to comfort family by saying that he is in a better place because he isn't. Accept Christ into your heart and ask for His forgivness. You will feel the difference immediately like a wieght has been lifted off of your chest. Ask Him for strength and guidace to make good choices and join a good Bible class to learn more and to fellowshiip with. God Bless You!

Interesting responses.
God doesn't judge people by their works, only by their salvation. Hmmm. So a decent atheist like me burns for eternity while a child-murderer who gets "saved" gets a seat at god's table.
If this is the way it really is I'd be more than happy to hang out in hell with Mr. Buffett. Especially if his nephew shows up with a blender, some limes, and tequila. I guess the ice would melt, but a hot margarita is better than no margarita, right?
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, Jimmy Buffett is Warren Buffett's nephew.
Excellent question.

Some people are idiots. This guy together with Gates are going to start a foundation that will impact thousands of lives in a positive way. Yet there are still people talking about him going to Hell.
Buffet is doing exactly what Jesus told his followers to do. Give up their money to help the poor. I wonder how many of the self righteous on here have sold their worldly goods to help others. We live in a world where millions are starving, and so called Christians sit in their comfortable homes with their nice computers chatting on the Internet about people going to Hell. I guess that's easier than actually trying to make a difference.

Nope , he wont go to heaven nor hell because he doesn't believe in it .
Which makes his gesture far more noble , he is not doing it for his own gain but humanity's .
Next time your about to do something charitable look inside yourself and ask what motivates you more , your personal salvation or doing a good deed just for the sake of helping others . That and that alone decides how good of a person you are .
Do you really think your god would favor someone who tries to save themselves over someone trying to save the world even if the person doesn't believe in him .... somehow that sounds very self absorbed and not nearly as all knowing and understanding as a omnipotent being should be .

Doing something that the world thinks is a righteous act is not the way to keep oneself out of Hell. Only belief in Jesus and the cleansing one receives by the blood of His sacrifice can do that.
Isaiah 64:6: "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away."
All atheists who die in their sins, regardless of their "righteous" works prior to death, will go to Hell.
Besides, when you scritinize what will happen to the money Buffett gave, his donation doesn't seem very rightious at all: the Gates Foundation is a major contributor to agencies that support and perform abortions and other abominations God hates.

Bill Gates is supposed to be an agnostic. He and Warren Buffett, as individuals, have given more to charity than all other organizations combined.
But, I thought atheists were supposed to be lacking morals and totally self-serving?
Maybe they should have become preachers and used their money to buy fancy mansions (Buffett still lives in the house he bought forty years ago for $100k), airplanes, yachts and cars.
Damned immoral atheists are making billionaires like Pat Robertson look bad.

How can you go to heaven if you are an athiest. He does not even believe God exists. It's not just that he doesn't believe in Jesus. It's great that he is helping people on earth but God is concerned with our souls and spirituality. Helping others in this life is part of that but so is belief and love for God and the world he created.

Hmm, first, you are pitting yourself against Mr Buffett when it comes to theism. Even arguing on your side, I don't think God would worry too much about whether someone accepts him or anyone else as a saviour. I believe one's conduct is more important.. We are all but mere instruments of his design, right?

If he is not saved when he dies, he will go to hell. I am sure glad that's all it takes, is to ask the Lord into your heart..... Because I don't think too many people have $37 billion to spare! Besides, if that was the case, you would be asking why only rich people can get to heaven, eh? :)
