It will be a binary fraction - 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 - or a multiple of it. You have 16 great-great grandparents (and 32 ggg grandparents, unless someone married a cousin.) If 3 of those 16 gg's were AI you are 3/16ths.
The only way to find out is to trace your family tree back to people who were on rolls - the Dawes Roll, for instance. Most tribes made lists of who was a member, at some time or other.
as for the math, just divide. 3/16 = 0.1875, for instance.
If one grandparent, "Red Cloud" and 2 gg grandparents who were not in the "Red Cloud" line were Indians, it is
1/4th + 2/16th =
4/16 + 2/16th =
6/16th = 3/8 = 0.375

Try this: If your great grand mother was/is full-blooded Cherokee,
consider her 100%. Say that she married someone who was of European descent, then their children would be 50%, If her son or daughter are one of your parents you would be 25% Cherokee.

Ask your grandparents, if they don't know, you're not enough to worry about it.
