Naturally the living style of many have changed for the better.
Then where is the problem? "Population". The statistics given by you does not speak of percentage increase of population and percentage increase in per capita income. Then it can be understood, a lot has been achieved against heavy odds, by a country which has seen 3 wars and with increased defence expenditure.

It is not possible because india is so much corrupted that even Tsunami fund raised even did not reach the poor people, think of the posiblities of government helping, It is so sick in india. Im an indian but living in hungary,Here I pay 1 percent of my annual tax which is quite huge to some charity .Is this kind of move from indian governement possible.. ? so that we can make a common fund and evey month 1 rupee one person can donate to a charity ? Imagine a population of 1.3 billion ,out of which if we consider 10 million people donating 1 rupee every month ,each month we have 10million indian rupees not a small money ,Sounds interesting.......isnt it ? but i dont think even one 1000 rupees will reach the real poor people because of coruption.above all ,how can we find out who is the poorest without race religion and age , who will manage the funding. these are my doubts ..I really appriciate ur concerns for por indians.

Never give them money donations. Use all money to hire crews and buy materials directly, to build schools, hospitals, water treatment plants etc, on land owned and controlled by the United Nations. Demand here in the US that no product can be imported from there that doesn't pay at least half the same wages to workers there that is paid to any worker here. There is no excuse for capitalizing on their poverty. Business exploitation is much more devastating to any country than terrorism.

As long as the country worships a million or more gods,
they are going to stay poor for the most part. It is a spiritual
problem. It seems the people with the highest standard of
living are in countries where their God is the God of the Bible,
and the Protestant work ethic rules.

Your government and those big companies must join hands in helping them. They must provide them with shelter and give them free education as well as means of livelihood.
Similar to my own personal project, I am a member of the Church Choir. But I extend my involvement further by conducting Medical Mission. All I did was to save my own money to buy medicines. Then another phase to save money to transport the volunteer doctors to and from the remotest places. Once everything is ready, from Medicines, Transportation Allowances, Food, and a place for the Mission, that's the time I would proceed. This is my lone self fulfillment.
May GOD help me with this noble Mission for the rest of my life. Amen.

India was once one of the richest places in the entire world. Most of its economic and social problems are the result of war and foreign invasion. Let India decide what needs to be done to eradicate poverty. Then offer to help them do it.It is a massive task and will take a lot of doing.
That is a job for on the spot experts to take care of.

To make local economies work for the poor, you need specific intervention programmes that are designed to INVOLVE to poor. The local intelligence of communities are so often under-estimated, and some 'methods' could be to facilitate problem-solving at LOCAL level with low-income groups. In simple terms: Have you posed the question to the ones that you are talking about??

When I lived in India, there was not programs sponsored by the government to help the poor.
i think if the Goverbment would fund some programs to help the poor that would be the first step. 2nd step would be to get the companies and the business commnity to get incolve they could sponsor programs and get tax deductions for their donations for it .
the programs could include Food Pantries, Soup Kitchen, Free clinic's, free/discounted technical education.
