The reasoning and parties responsible are probably muslim. The reson for this is as usual Chechnya, Russia has not been on good terms with some of the rebel groups and they are all interconnected. So basically they decided that since security is tight in Russia and last time they tried to blow up and make a siege in a city they got their butts kicked. Putin shut down an entire regional capital and coerced/lied to the terrorists so that they would come out of the buildings and as soon as they got them out of the city they were shot point black end of story. Russia does not negotiate and will not let them get away. They had already killed civilians and if allowed to go free they would just join the cause again. So, what they probably did was focus on Iraq, where there is much mayhem and daily bombings and took a swing at some Russians. Its all about payback with them.
Not to be outdone, the Russian mafia is also an option but unlikely unless there is some personal issues that we have not been made aware of.
As for the US being a winner, that is not the case since the US is in charge right now it actually reflects badly on them if foreign diplomats are not safe in a land that is controleld by them. It could lead to many nations pulling their diplomats out and then Iraq reverses to being a super dangerous zone and looks like zero progress has been made. So although the US may argue with Russia over politics they do not wish their diplomats to be killed.

What are you talking about??!! How is the US the winner? What do the Iraqi's get from killing ANYONE???!!! They are animals who still live in the dark ages, not because they have to, but because they WANT to live in that mentality and belief. To listen to them talk about crussades and infedils and non believers shows where their mentality and reasoning is,( if you can call it that). No one in the world still thinks this way, because we have progressed and advanced with time. You and them still wish for the days of war and destruction.

it is obvious the muslim terrorists did it, muslims hate women, they hate freedom, they hate enterprise, they want everyone to be miserable like them. Most of the deaths in Iraq are done by muslims who then blame America for it and all silly leftists believe it.
what do the muslime terrorist have to gain? simple, everyone (especially leftists) will blame America, undermine the army which long term will help mudslime terrorist

No, Al-Queda may be despicable terrorists but they don't just make it up when they claim responsibilty. What do the insurgents gain from killing anybody from any country?

exciting idea, yet no longer certain US extremely needs to "percentage" Iraq with the Russians. The "terrorist" insurgents in Iraq have their personal agenda for the abductions. contained in the previous, it looked like they were doing it to split up the "coalition." i am going to't imagine of any reason the insurgents would favor Russian troops after them besides as US troops/
