I believe there is more involved than age. I would first say that 13 is a good "age" but is the child mature and responsible enough to handle situations. Some 15 year olds youl could never trust to leave home alone and then there are some ten year olds that can prove to handle it well. It depends on your childs ability to responsibly handle this and the gut feeling you get that they will be ok.

Age is obviously a factor, but you also need to keep the law in mind. Different states (and i'd assume countries) have different laws about when you can leave children unattended.
It also depends on how long the child will be by themself. If its less then an hour, i'd say around 9-10. By 13 most kids are fine on there own.

I believe the answer is not connected necessarily by the age; may be a legal age exist on this sense, but normally depend in how much they need assistance at home, and if they are autonomous or not. It is a question of how much do you know your children, and what other threat they can be exposed by stain alone at home.

13 years old by law
You know most kids are fine being home alone at 8 or 9 even....
The problems mainly start if friends come over because they always try to show off!!!!
The kids that live in town, seem to get in a lot more trouble then the kids that live in the country!!!!!!!!!!
Most the time it comes back not being your kid but the friends they hang out with!!!!!!!!!!!! So check out their friends closely(have a good relationship with your child and their friends)
KEEP THE FRIENDS AWAY???????? NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom was going to start when I was 16 years old. I keep my brothers and sisters from fighting so it would be a problem if she left them here with me too. She said 16 was the legal age or something similar to that. Could be earlier or later if you go by maturity.

If you can trust your kids for one, then I would say Junior High. Like 7th or 8th Grade. Then you wouldn't have children services coming down on you.
