It is simply a matter of temperament. As mentioned above geldings tend to be much calmer than entire horses (you should only call them a stallion if they are being used for breeding) and as NH horses can race well into their teens it would be unfair to deny a horse his natural urges for so long.
Entire horses can take part in NH racing very successfully. Alderbrook won the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in 1995 and was second in the same race in 1996. He is now at stud in Ireland and is siring talented progeny such as Sh Boom and Ollie Magern.

Most horses are gelded as it keeps their mind on racing and not on other things. Also safer for the other horses in the race, especially if there are mares racing!!
Its a shame that a lot of the good horses are gelded, ie Best Mate, Red Rum, think of the breeding that could have been done with them.
Hopes this answeres you question.

You can race a stallion. Removing some of the reproductive organs allots for a calmer, quiter, easier to control horse. And this is for every type of horse out there. The N.H. horses are entering into the age or have entered into the age, that their minds are "Let's reproduce." Stallion-like behavior can be hard to train out of them. Also, it could depend on the rider. It is one less distraction that the rider has to deal with. They have to figure out how to steer a 1,000+animal that has a mind of its own over miles of turf and fences as well as trying to do their best in the race, out maneuvering the other horses and jockeys, all while doing this SAFELY. Every jockey out there is trying to do the same.
Let's say for example that you are riding Horse number 5 in a race that is 3 miles and 15 fences. Bob is riding horse number 7. The race goes off and you are jockeying for position. Yourb stallion realizes that Bob's horse is a mare in heat. He takes his mind off the race for a second and three riders and horses are lying in a tangled heap on the ground. You can have your jockeys lisence suspended due to reckless riding.
Unless a horse is being used for active breeding each year, gelding him is the best option as it will keep him helathier longer. There are things that you dont have to worry about.

hunt horses need to be gelded because of their temperment. stallions are always looking for mares, and they get quite rowdy around them. if they get out of hand, people and horses could get hurt, so they geld them so that they are calmer.

It is actually to do with temperament.
Gelded horses are much clamer and easier to ride than full males. They are less likely to buck and rear and cause injuries to the riders, and also less likely to lash out at the other horses.

It's mainly because of temperment and being able to handle them better. You don't wanna have an angry horse, that you can't control. And you won't have to worry about your horse being around others and it's more humane.
