Buy a new harddisk
Unplug the old one from the motherboard.
Insert the new one.
Install Windows XP SP2.
Attach the old harddisk to the 2nd channel.
Copy data from the old one to the new one.
Unplug the old harddisk.
Now you have a backup as well as a WinXP without virus/spywares.

hi! Ok do you currently have a verison of Windows on the computer you want to put XP Pro on?
Make sure you back up all the stuff you want to keep if you do
then just put the CD in the computer, turn off, restart and it might say "press any key to boot from CD" or just load the windows installation program mine is usually a blue screen at the beginning...now just press what ever it says to press, and when its time to "make a partition" just select the first one and delete that, then it will show you how to make a new one just follow what it says on screen once you have selected and made a partition windows will most likely begin to install and restart the computer on its own
there are websites that are probably more in depth try google.com and do a search

It should be a boot able CD and it will more or less install itself if you follow the instructions. Back up your computer first. Getting in to you bios to make your computer boot from a CD may be a problem. On some computers, you press delete as soon as you switch it on, on others it's escape. On this one it appears to be F8. Once in make the first boot able drive the one you're putting the CD in. A is a floppy disk drive (if you have one), B: too (old computer if you have a B: drive, C: is your hard drive. If you only have one hard drive and one CD drive then D: will be the CD drive that you want to set your computer to boot from. On my laptop, C: is my hard drive, D: is a virtual back up and E is the CD drive. On my desktop, A floppy, C: hard drive, D: hard drive No2, E: DVD ROM drive, F: DVD rewritable drive. I hope you get the idea! If you install and format - you lose everything on your hard drive. So all your programs will need to be reinstalled and data restored from a backup. I'm not sure if WIN XP pro will install without formatting. But back all your data up just in case.

well u'll have to make u r cd drive as u r first bootable device from BIOS
then insert the xp pro cd into cd drive & follow instructions
u may choose to replace u r current os with XP or keep them both
it is not advisable to keep 2 operating systems in the same partition of u r hard drive.

If you intend to do a clean install make sure you have all of your hardware drivers before you format as it is getting harder to find driver sites and a lot of manufacturers are now turning to shipping cds out rather than having the software on websites, it may combat pc theft but it is a pain to have to wait for them to ship.
