I have a serious issue with the ideology that we need love. You need companionship, not love. The greatest album of this decade so far is the Love Below. And if you were to listen to the words instead of the beat, Andre 3000 spells it out for you. Check it out.

Human have non-material needs, love is one of them. We need love because it feels good and because it connects us to others. We are meant to connect and support each other and select compatible partners and empathize with others and love our offspring or we'd be miserable and die away. Survival. Could it have been designed otherwise? Maybe.
By the way, Freud had said we need love and work (as in being productive regardless of the income reward), then Jung added Play. We NEED fun too, isn't that interesting?
