Also I thought the point of biometrics is they read your ID from your body so you shouldn't need a card?!

Its one of Labours 'flagship' schemes...how it will help stop terrorism i can't see, its completely stupid. You shouldnt have to pay for one, i plan to refuse to pay for one. Its a breach of our fundamental rights and i refuse to even consider carrying one

Why is this becoming such a huge issue? Everyone else in Europe carries an ID Card for G-d's sake! Also, if you are solely travelling within the EU all you need is an indentity card to travel with, which will be a hell of alot cheaper, for those who just go to Benidorm or Ayia Napa for 2 weeks once a year!

The ID card is required so that police do not have to all be issued with a Biometric scanner each. Its not like Star Trek with a little hand held scanner.

The idea of having to carry an ID with you at all times is abhorrent to me. Do you have to carry one when you're just taking a walk or riding your bicycle or laying on the beach? Why should the police have the right to stop you and demand to see your "papers"? It's like having your privacy stolen.

Can you demand to see the "papers" of the policemen?

Its the government keeping tabs on its populace, those who bother to pay their taxes, abide by the rules and cause no hassle to anyone else. I say we all go on a 'Falling Down' rampage and see how the government likes it when all hell breaks loose. Remember the british army consists of around about 100,000 soldiers, the police about 500,000, but there are 60,000,000 residents on the british mainland- they cant stop us all!

I agree that you shouldn't have to pay for one, but I do feel strongly on carrying one. If the government make it mandatory to carry one then they should foot the bill.

If you have nothing to hide, what is the problem???
If it stops illigal immigrants, and theft ID then it's a great idea.

Who said that you have to pay for an id card, they are not mandatory in the Uk and when they are issued you will not have to pay for them.

I think it is a joke that you have to pay for them. I have no problem carrying one, I think that the concept is a good idea. But as for paying for one, it is just ridiculous.
