Greece has the longest national anthem in the world.
It has 158 stanzas, written by the poet Dionysios Solomos (although the cut-down version is shorter than Uruguay's, which is more than five minutes long).
King George I declared the poem the country's anthem, and the Italian-trained composer Nicolaos Manzaros supplied the music.
The Greeks weren't sure about it and sent it to musical experts in Bavaria to check it. It became the national anthem by special edict in 1864.
