Ok... I have a HP Pavilion a305w. It came with Windows XP Home Edition. Being without a Recovery Console, my main computer is not gonna be able to be used until I am able to reinstall windows. I went to the HP site and there are no files there as far as I can find (if you find something, please let me know), and I went to the Microsoft site and I only find service packs to download. How can I reinstall windows on my machine without the disks? I know how to reformat and reinstall WITH the disks... I just need to know if there is a way I can make my own. I really don't want to pay 100 dollars for software that I already own. Seems crappy. Not to mention I don't have the money anyway.

I bought it from WalMart and it was a few years ago (maybe 2?). So I'm pretty sure any warranty it had is probably expired.

I have my own registration code; it's on a sticker on my computer, so no problem there. I just need to know where to download it. :) Thanks everyone for the answers so far.

Call the people you brought the computer from and have them fix it. They should have given you the CDs.

Many cities have computer clubs. Maybe you can contact them and borrow one. Also a lot of librarys have computer disks available for checkout. Last option would be to contact a computer repair store. All of them have restore disks for every version of windows. The may be willing to let you have a copy.

You would be better off using someone's computer and (sorry this may be illegal) and use a p2p client server to download Windows XP. Try!

I downloaded Microsoft Office on Limewire..

On some of the newer hp system, you have to burn your own recovery cd's. There might be a option in the start menu to do this.
