I often see Christians in here challenging atheists to prove the non existance of god. They see this as a way of proving god does exist. Their logic seems to be this : If you can't prove for sure that god does not exist, well then he must exist !

So, on to my question.

Christians, can you prove non existance of invisible fairies who fly around in the clouds all day ?

I don't want bible verses, or religious stuff, I just want an answer to the above question about the existance of invisible fairies.

Wendylady, no I can't. That's the point I'm making. It is impossible to prove something does not exist, whether that be god or fairies.

What is a fairy? How would one recognize one if they did exist. What difference do they make. Your question is designed to be unanswerable. It defines the entity as nonexistent by defintion. Your question is about creatures, by defintion, contingent, so it must have definable qualities by definition. That is what the word exist means when referenced to contingient entities. God by defintion is not an entity. God by defintion is not contingent. The word exist in reference to God cannot have the same meaning as it does in reference to fairies. In English, fairies is a plural. In other languages, God as a concept cannot be applied any kind of plurality. In English, God is a different concept from gods. Gods are contingent. A God is contingent. But God is not contingent. Therefore the idea that God is provable or disprovable is equally inapplicable in a way that is not true of fairies or gods.

The eixtence of fairies is logically such a different kind of question that it has no bearing on what people ordinarily assert when they assert the existence of God. The provability or disprovability of God is a different sort of question.

Another question which might put this in context is "who cares?"

If I disproved or proved the existence of fairies what difference does it make. Practical or impractical. As long as they are in clouds and I can't see them what do I care.

God on the other hand seems to elicit real passion and commitment and effort even among those who assert their disbelief in God. If God doesn't exist, then why talk about it. If some referent does not apply, why bother to ask if that referent does or doesn't exist.

There is something else going on here

You are right in a way! It's impossible to prove existence/nonexistence of anything!!!

But then take a safe pathway! I mean... What if God did exist and the Bible is true?

Take this from me.....If you are waiting for someone to prove the existence of God before you can accept him, then there is a great chance that you'll never meet God..
Because "faith" itself means "belief without certainty" or "to believe without seeing"..

From my life I've noticed that more I believe in God "blindly" against all odds; the more I experience him later!!!

I don't know whether I made any sense to you...But I am a medical student, learning the intricacies of life , all those complex biochemical reactions happening in the simplest of all cells, I have no choice but to believe in God... I would be a fool to explain it as a big bang or mere coincidence!!! As some one said.... "If you believe big bang created the universe or just coincidence lead to life ---- then go buy yourselves a 10000 lotteries, for you will win the jackpot in every single one of them, because that's an easier probability than the whole universe to be set in motion by a big bang" I haven't had the time to see whether he was right or wrong... I just believe-- so far it's worth it.

Interesting question. I'm a healthy skeptic, so excuse me for asking this: Can YOU prove the existence of invisible fairies? Just wondering.

1TIM 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

A spirit is a being in the 3rd dimensional state. The Bible is clear that in our world there exists MANY SPIRITS.. could be that your fairies are some of them as the holy book describes even deceiving spirits, and even familiar spirits (ghosts) This is no big deal when you understand that even we, are composed of Body, Soul and Spirit. Meaning, there is a spirit part in us as well because we are made in the image of God and like God, we are also three-in one. (trinity)
However, be careful what you regard as things to believe in because the only spirit worth believing is the HOLY SPIRIT, which is a persona of the three-in one God.

1JN 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,

Sheesh, baby, fairies exist. Even gremlins, and chuckie, and harry potter. You must be kiddling.

And fairies don;t fly around clouds all day... they also sunk in your consciousness like today...

Grow up. Read a lot. Eat a lot. And use your senses. Most of all, your common sense. So, tell me, is there a branch of science and technology that have brought forth a single cell or specie?

Yes let the Christians believe what they want. I believe that God is there. but I also believe that he is the Great spirit, Allah, Zeus.

He is and was and always will be. But I also believe that their are faires and Unicorns and Dragons and alll creatures before and after were here.

Many Christians say you let me believe what i want andyou believe what you want and lets just be happy. Have you really watched or read what SO called Chrisitans do. They will push and bother and annoy and do whatever they must to MAKE YOU belive what they believe.

So I like his question and i hope he asks more to make you Christians think about all that is there and all that you can't see either.

Great question, I love using sarcasm to point out obvious stupidity as well. Would give you 10 pts if I could.
Now I have question for you.
Are all the Fairies that we can see like the big tribes in San Francisco and Key West, waiting to do enough good deeds to get their wings and invisibility cloaks, or did they do enough good deeds in the clouds and earn their earth loafers?

According to what they seem to claim, monsters in the closet exist, monsters under the bed exist, Martians exist, Bigfoot exists, and the list is infinite of things that exist since they have never been proven to not exist.
