How else do you think they can afford to pay for all of their court cost's and moving Priests to different locations. Secrecy doesn't come cheap.

You are under no obligation to give a donation at Mass. Every Catholic does have an obligation to support the church, though. From a practical standpoint, the money we put in the collection basket, along with bread and wine, and the whole universal church, is part of the gifts we offer to God at Mass. The Mass and the sacraments are absolutely necessary for our temporal and spiritual welfare, so contributing a small sum to help defray the costs of the church buildings, grounds, maintenance, electricity, air conditioning, required staff and supplies, is only fair. We should all give what we can afford to give. Regarding the corruption issue: of the original apostles that Jesus hand-picked, fully 8.33 percent (1 of 12) turned out to be corrupt (Judas). I don't know what percentage of today's priests are corrupt, but corrruption is nothing new, and it's certainly no reason to abandon either one's local parish, or the Catholic church. Every Catholic should do what they can to eliminate the corruption. If it means getting more involved in the local parish, joining the Knights of Columbus or other groups, and demanding a larger role in parish financial and personnel matters, than that's what we need to do. Any other course of action (or inaction) will leave us in a very awkward position on judgment day, when Christ asks us why we abondoned the church he personally established, rather than simply asking him for the grace and wisdom we needed to restore it. - Doug Lawrence ... The donations help the church to keep functioning. Pay the priest, buy the candles, pay the utilities, pay the mortgage or rent, insurance, buy new supplies, etc.
The best time when people are likely to remember to donate is during mass.

The Offering was built into the Church Liturgy as part of the Sacrament - that you give something in return for receiving communion.
If you do not take any of the Bread or Wine - then you do not have to pay - but then you will have to Confess what you did.

You must keep in mind that all churches and religions were founded by men a lot smarter than you. They are clever enough to sponge a living out of all the gullible, superstitious fools who swallow that codswallop about god and heaven.

GENIVAL, who lives in a shantytown in northeastern Brazil, supported his wife and children on the meager wages he earned as a hospital security guard. Despite his hardship, Genival gave the tithe conscientiously. "Sometimes my family went hungry," he recalls while rubbing his belly, "but I wanted to give God my best, no matter what sacrifice was necessary."
