Our family has 4 independent, responsible children working in their chosen careers or in college, and 1 irresponsible, lazy, son that continues to have children and pop in and out of jail for various petty crimes. This is the oldest of the five, he's 26, in jail, two children (with an equally awful mother) with another on the way from another aquaintance. There are support groups for parents raising their grandchildren because this is such a common practice. So sad. Any ideas?

You are not alone. There is help for grandparents raising their grandchildren.

Contact Child & Family Services in your area. They have programs geared towards this very issue.

Also, FIA/DSS/DHS - For Medicaid, Food Stamps & other assistance.

There's not a lot that can be done now. Your son seems way to immature to have had children. Who knows? Maybe kids these days were too protected and so haven't learned to face adult responsibilities. Kids should go outside and play in the neighborhood, not stay home and play video games.

It seems to be not uncommom anymore, my daughters brothers and sisters are raised by their grandparents , her real father kept having kids but not wanting to take on the responsibilty of raising them. My thoughts lay into him, make him get fixed. I raise my kids even tho I had them young. My parents raised their children it is their time to enjoy life and retirement. I know you love your grandchildren , but you have to ask yourself, if you want to spend your remaining days raising kids , or should they be put up for adoption.
