NO....... I do not believe there should be a pitbull ban. Alot of the problem with pitbulls is the way they are raised, and irresponsible owners. I realize that there has been many pitbull attacks and most of these dogs was because the owners did not keep the dog up, and let the dog run because they did not care.
Some of the instances where kids have been mauled by the pit is where the child crossed over on the owners property and got in with the dog.
Well I don't believe that any dog should attack a poor child, but childrens parents need to educate a child on how not every dog or animal is nice and you cannot trust just walking up to any dog, people educate children about guns and strangers, but not on animals.
There has been cases that the pit has has been a family pet for years and they just suddenly mauled a family member. I do not know why this happens, but i do know that dogs and any other animals get grumpy like people do and have bad days.
It isn't just the pitbull that attacks people, there has been cases of the german shephard, saint bernards, rotts, chows. But the pit gets the most publicity. When i was little i remember a neighbor had a german police dog in a chain link fence with beware of dog signs up. when the prople were gone a small child entered the fence, the dog mauled her and killed her. It was a bad thing, but once again this girl had not been told the dog was bad and lived right next door to the owners. The dog was put down. It is not just the pit, but they are the ones with the worse reputation.

No I do not believe in banning Pit Bulls and here are my reasons.

I think any dog in the end how it behaves is a direct result of it's owner. Granted some breeds have some traits that are more dominant and come out easier than in other breeds, however, ultimately the owner is at fault on this one,

Everyone has such a misconception I think, take a look at this...a chihuahua, or a mini pinscher they tend to be loyal to there owner as well as possessive of there owners the only this is that these are small dogs and most people don't believe they pose as much of a threat....if these breeds were bigger they would have the same discussion that we are having right now about Pit Bulls.

In the end it is the people who raise the animals to be mean or more aggressive so it should be directed at them and not dog breed discrimination.

Have a good one--JammieG.

NO! If you pick on breed to ban what breed is net. It is not the pit bulls fault that is sought after by mindless idots who just want a so called tough dog. I have a very close friend who did pit rescue for many years and I have seen tons of great dogs. They need to be trained and taught the right things. You can take any dog and teach it aggressive behavior. There are dogs that people call aggressive that are actually reactive dogs and that can be curbed to some degree with the right training. There are trainers that do just that for a living. Most of a dogs behavior is learned whether it is taught to the dog or is taught because the dog is not taught how to behave with humans the behaviors are all learned.

No, pit bulls are wonderful dogs, they make excellent companions.

As for the new California legislation being passed to eliminate all pit bulls, its stupid. The pit bulls behavior depends on how its owner treats it. If the owner is mean, the pit bull would be, if the owner is loving and nice, then the pit bull will most likely be the same.

I am against banning pit bulls, and the California legislation for it.

BLAME THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!

No, despite the fact they have a bad rep. Some Pit Bulls are very loving dogs and can be like a regular dog within anyones' home. Note: its the nature vs. nurture debate. I think, even though pit bulls are known to have a bad temperament, they can be trained in a way so that they can control themselves. With the right about of nurture and a proper up bringing (from when it is a puppy), I am sure it can be a suitable pet for anyone.

I think dogs are like children. All individuals that can be raised with love and warmth to love or be abused to abuse= ficious.

Some dogs seem to lose the plot as they age, less patience I suppose and can become snappy just like the elderly and if tested too much will snap or give it back-just like us humans.
Some people, and dogs alike also get a little brain degeneration and this will cause the dog to snap but then the owner should be aware of it and do something like muzzle when could be a risk to others.
Why ban a breed when there is no need for them to be ficious if cared for properly, or kept away from others when are a risk, it's the owners who are putting others at risk, not the dog.

Because of idiots, like the one who posted a question asking about 'game pits,' the breed and the public's perception of it has been horribly tainted. I don't think they should be banned, but I do think those people attracted to the breed need to be monitored to ensure they don't do stupid things like fight them. My husband and I have rescued about 40 dogs and have seen the results of the pit bulls who didn't win. The people who do this kind of thing to any animal should be pursued and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Better yet, chain them up and turn the dogs loose on them.

NO. I think they have a bad reputation just from how they were raised. They can be great family pets if raised right. Or complete vicious animals if trained that way. My sister in law lives in a town where pits have to be registered and they have to have a special license to keep the dog. On top of that no more pits are allowed in that town as of a certain day. If it wasn't registered before that date you are not allowed to have them. They were screwed when their pit had puppies because all the puppies had to be adopted outside of their town. All of her pits have been great. They even have three young kids. It's a sad thing to band such a great dog.

Heck NO.. The issue is the owners not the dogs. Owners are responsible to train their dogs and have control at all times. There are more dog attacks in my area that are done by other dogs then pits. I have two pits and they are extremely friendly.
