You should have a 16 ounce porterhouse steak smothered with 3 eggs over easy, a stack of pancakes with lots & lots of real butter and syrup, as many biscuits as will fit on your plate, some grits, sausage, bacon, and a big slice of apple pie with sharp cheddar cheese on top. Try to fit in 6-8 cups of coffee and a cigarette.

If you can stand the taste, soy milk is a great alternative. You get everything you need out of the milk. It's really not all that bad. I'm just picky and love whole milk. So, try it. My kids love it. They call it sweet milk. That should coat your stomach pretty well, just like the milk so you can eat the banana. If I'm remembering correctly from when I was working out a lot (when I was younger and had no kids!) the banana is eaten beforehand to prevent muscle cramps. I can't stand bananas, so I ate some other stuff that was high in potassium. Here's a site that gives you items in each food group that contain larger amounts of potassium and approximately how much in each. This way, you have a variety of things you can choose from, and it doesn't have to be bananas every day.

Also, you eat after wards because your body is still in motion on the inside for about 30 minutes after you stop working out. So, your body can turn more of your food into muscle right after you eat. Whereas if you eat before you work out, then your body is already working hard to digest the food and there's not enough energy to digest and get a maximum workout.

After a workout you lose all the carbs in your system. You need a piece fruit to restore those carbs lost. An hour after that have some protein, about 50 grams if you are weight training. 3 or so hours later 35 grams protein and as much greens as you would like. 3 hours later supplement your diet with a piece of fruit again. Then 2-3 hours later you should be ready for dinner, 35-50grams of protein a small helping of a good grain carb- brown rice, and some Green veg. If you are weight training this method will make you a lean mean fighting machine, the alternating of the fruit carb w/ the protein meal has your metabolism up and running all day. Your body uses different enzymes to break down protein and carbs hence the active metabolism. You will be cut like Rocky from his second movie.

You should try to have a little protein after working out. Eat a little bit of something right after, and them eat more later. Maybe a salad with a bit of tofu, or with a nice soy dressing. Just for the little protein your muscles need to rebuild. You could try doing a smoothie with tofu if milk doesn't sit well. Or try some yogurt, the enzymes in that usually help it sit better.

I can't eat banana on empty stomach either, but I put on a slice of low carb whole wheat toast topped with peanut butter and banana and it fills me up for a while and I don't feel sick from the banana.

It's a simple question. You don't need to get worried about it. After a workout, take light food for stomach as heavy food may result in tiredness. Take real fruit juice without adding sugar to it or take a glass of glucose to release instant enery. Eat fruit or vegetable salads of vegetable or fruits available in that particular season. Try this out for a week. If this doesnt works, consult a doctor.

"bananas can't be taken on an empty stomach?" Says who? That's silly.
Yogurt and Fruit. Cheese and Fruit. A bagel with light cream cheese. Cheese toast. PNB sandwich. Smoothie made w/ fruit, milk, & yogurt.

Soy milk comes in many delicious flavors and is easy to digest. Can also add a variety of fresh fruit to flavor it.
A nice hot bowl oatmeal, not the instant mess. The real one cooked on the stove. Can add raisins or dried cranberries,or brown sugar to top it off.
