Because they still have big eyes, twitchy whiskers, a purr, and soft fluffy fur - all the things that make you love them in the first place. Plus, a big fat cat belly begs to be touched.

However, it IS unhealthy and should be remedied. My cat was up to 18 lbs. I just spent the last year-and-a-half keeping him on a diet (he nearly drove me crazy!), and now he is back to the recommended 12 lbs. And he is like a new kitty: more energy, plays all the time, talks, chirps, runs all around the house - and he's 14 years old. He is really much better company now. I'm glad I stuck with it, even though it was not easy.

Oh, and he fits much better in my lap now where I can admire his adorableness.

Perhaps because they are small and fluffy, and you inherently love all cats anyway!

My cat is a little overweight right now, and he is on a diet, but I suspect that he is getting fed elsewhere, as we are giving him less and less he is still putting it on, but I love him anyway, and one of these days, I may well keep him in for a few days and see if that helps - except that I know he will become more lazy if he is kept inside!

first off don't diss Garfield secondly the reason the cats fat is that it eats way to much put the cat on a diet less food. third to answer your Q. a cat is as cute as your eyes and brain see it.

i don't find it adorable..i find it sad. over weight cats have the same problems people do. diabetes, joint pain, heart conditions.....fat cats are being killed by to much food.
ppl that own an over weight cat need to put it on a diet...or risk loosing him/her before their time!!!

Maybe it's because they still keep their kittenish personalities...
