Actually, they didn't necessarily eat an apple. That is just a tradition passed down that has no biblical warrant.
Both ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
As a result of their sin, both were under a curse. The woman would experience pain in childbearing, and the man would experience pain and frustration through toilsome labor that wouldn't always bear fruit.

Good Day!
I want to correct the wrong perception that many persons have instilled in our minds. It is not really an apple, the Bible only mentioned the fruit of tree of knowledge of good and evil and no variety of fruits is mentioned in the Bible.
Actually, the Bible said that after the woman had eaten the fruit, she gave some to the man and did the same. that's why both of them were cursed by our GOD and driven away in the Paradise. I do believe that the punishment by our God to the humanity is just because of their disobedience to His commandment.

They both partook of the fruit of the tree. I don't think it specifies that it was an apple, but that's beside the point. Eve was tempted by the serpent & partook of it first & then offered it to Adam. When he saw the the fruit was good to eat he made the choice of his own free will to eat it. Then when God came & asked them about it Adam tried to blaim Eve for the whole thing, she in turn blaimed the serpent. I think the reason God punished both of then was not only did they eat of the fruit of the tree he expressly forbid them to, but because they both tried to put the blaim on someone else & not take responsibility for their own actions.

They both ate the apple. Eve bit into it first and then Adam bit it and then thats when they were able to see eachother naked. Only women got punished for it thats why we have such harsh labors and a menstral cycle.

They both did. Just because Eve dragged Adam to her sin, she suffers monthly (menstruation) and during pregnancy.
