It's the same as this site http://www.ultimatepokerbet.blogspot.com
They want you to play at their site. The more players the popular the poker site becomes. The popular the site the more players come to play. Then they can offer free tournaments with very large payouts to draw even more attention.
It's an on going cycle that they and the players benefit from.

Because gambling is addicting and gives a rush. They're banking on you using (and losing) not only the money they gave away but your own as well. Remember, in casinos (especially ones ran by software and not real people - I don't trust them at all, I'd rather go to the real thing w/ humans) the odds are ALWAYS in favor of the house.
They're hoping that you spend all your money and that you don't immediately cash out any money they've handed to you to play with. Not sure if they're one of them but most online casinos won't let you cash out immediately if they've just given you money by putting a hold on it or saying its under investigation and while you wait, hoping that you get bored and gamble it away. I've seen it done to my friends before. Also, since you said you've had the account for a year, depending on how much you use it, it just might be their way of saying thank you as a customer loyalty bonus.
Other than that, they're a casino. In the end, they always profit to the point they can throw away $50 here and there. Between people who don't know when to quit and advertising, usually through the use of pop-ups, pop-unders, forcing clients to install software usually bundled with spyware, etc. they make more than enough money back.

Simple. Go to Vegas. Look at those massive biuldings worth so much money. Then log into Party Poker (which has more players than a casino in Vegas) and go talk to their dealers... oh wait, you say they are just computer bots?
Party Poker has no buildings (well they might have a building with thier staff, but no actual casino is owned), has very few employees compared to a traditional casino and has a massive number of people playing at all times. Their costs are low and they pull in lots of players.
They give away free money to keep people playing on their casino rather than other online casinos. While they have very little costs, they can lose a customer quite easily (click of a mouse) and as such they want to give incentives for players to continue to stay on their site.

A lot of people lose a lot of money to websites like that, too. Casinos, even internet ones, make a whole lot more money than they give out.

I don't think it's real money. I think it's money that you save on rakes and stuff like that. Instead of you paying the rake on the games your playing, you'll save that much by not paying it.
That way, you'll be happy and stay on their site longer.

its advertising dude!
you see, when they give away free money, their reputation goes up, when their rep goes up, more people would advertise at their site! and you know ads are expensive these days.. they get money.. and they don't have to spend money on advertising coz they have a gud rep and nothing sells better than good rep!
