German shepards are only loyal, if they have loyal owners ...

My mom was partly raised by her German Shepard in Big Bear. Literally, Sherry-Dog would walk her to school, fought off a Raccoon once and was part human with her. Many years ago I owned a beautiful doggy named BO. He was 3/4 Red Wolf and 1/3 German Shepard and to this day, my favorite fur friend I ever had! He ended up living in the wolf farm he came from cause I had moved to Europe for a couple years and continued to visit him in his EDEN until the day he died... The most loyal, trusting and fun pale I ever had, includes all human ones at that!

Make sure that your GS has it's hips checked before you buy as this is the weakest area.

Remember that the GS was bred to be a guard dog so if you do buy one, get yourself and your dog signed up into a training class.

All dogs are loyal but the GS if handled and trained correctly are fantasic pets to have, I've had GS's for the last 22 years and wouldn't be without one.

All around Great Dogs!
Long nose, keen smell, above-average bite strength, good fighters, very protective, loud barkers, scary to burglars, nice to children, etc.

The Waffen SS (Nazi Storm Troopers) cried their eyes out when they had to extirminate their dogs for lack of food and provisions to keep them.

That should tell you something
about the loyalty, friendship,self-reliance, and power of the G.S. !!

They are favored by Police departments, and good as guides for the blind. An intelligent breed.

But they are an outdoor dog and need a lot of exercise. Not for city dwellers in apartments.

My mother is blind and has had two German Shepards as guide dogs and they have been wonderful. The one she has now sticks by her side when she (Charm) is off duty. And barks any time someone is outside her house. They are great dogs but needed good training from the time they are a puppy.

They are awesome dogs, very loyal and protective of their families as long as they are treated like one of the family (that is with any dog).

I had a Shepard/Rottweiler mix and he was the best dog, loved kids and people in general,,,,,bark was far more fierce than the bite.

Never bit anyone.

german shepards are intelligent and a very trainable dogs, but they always have to have a job to do. if not, they can get bored and destructive.they need vigorous gromming once a day and,of course, plenty of exercise! they also need alot of food and space,as they are quite large.i would advise a german shepard for an experienced dog owner, because iv known first time dog owners who bought german shepards with disasterous results! over all, they are lovely dogs a pleasure to keep! good luck!
