If you are looking for a truck, then wait for the new Toyota truck, Tundra. It's the one that has Detroit trembling in it's boots. Japanese design built in America by Americans!

Ford sells over 900,000 F series trucks annually.
Making them the #1 seller 29 years in a row.
GM sells over 800,000. The Japanese do not offer a capable, reliable pick up that can out tow, out payload, or outlast the domestic American truck. If you compare the frame construction, suspension, cab configurations, features and
engine choices ( torque and horsepower that is needed)
the Japanese build little wimpy trucks.
How many fleets of Toyota's pick-up do you see?
Look at your local utility company's trucks, or your town's municipal trucks, or construction crews, fire dept.
You see Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Because they offer what those fleets need to operate in a rugged demanding environment.

The reason you see so many American fleets is because of "Buy American" clauses that a lot of companies and all governments have and up until the past few years they haven't made one that can match the payload towing capacities. However, in recent years, that gap has closed, and with the debut of the new Tundra in 2007, you will see a gigantic difference.
Just find a Toyota 4x4 owner and ask him what he'll take for his truck. A 10 year old Tacoma with 200k mi is worth more than my 03 F-150 with 85k mi. You do the math....I wish I would have. Now it's impossible for me to trade.

Just depends on what you're looking for. Domestic trucks tend to be more into huge payload capacities and lots of power. Japanese trucks aim more towards unique and innovating engineering, but less power. Depends on how heavily you will be using it.

it depends
American trucks provide the muscle of V8s for a heavy payload, workload, and jobs that require heavy duty.
Japanese trucks provide reliability and everyday driving, yet their engine strength has yet to be proven to be as strong as American V8s.
