For example, if someone was abused on and off for a period of seven years could they still bring that person that sexually abused them to a court of law or could they have some sort of legal help on their side to bring this crime to justice, or is all hope lost?

I was abused, as I said above, and I am waiting until my eighteenth birthday to do anything because even though my mother knows (it was her boyfriend, after all) I am waiting until I am out of the house to do anything about it because I don't want my grandparents involved in this.

What can I do about this? I am literally at a loss. I have some of his information, like two previous addresses, people he's lived with, DOB, etc. etc. What can I do?

You can win the case, especially if you can give information that you would only know if you were abused, i.e., scars or marks on areas of his body that should be covered, penis size, something about his penis when erect, etc...

It is best to report it immediately. If you have seman samples on you or your clothing, that can be proof that he is molesting you. If you wait, any evidence may be unusable.

Good luck!

It's hard, but you know, the sooner you report it the sooner you get this resolved.

The police and the victims unit will work with you and they will do the charging.

It is common for mother's to know about it, but even if they don't admit it they will be able to corroborate most of your statement.

The Prosecuting attorney will be the County, or sometimes Attorney Generals office. Depends on the state.

try and write everything down now, and as you remember more, write in down. Sometimes because of your brain tryin not to let things overwhelm you, will only let out what you can deal with.

Times and places. Any receipts say from a camping ground, anyone you told, anyone who may have seen somthin. Sometimes things happen when you are home from school. Those than be documented by school records And write it over a period of time.

It would have been great if you had written something when it was happening. Anyone who can descredit your mother if she denies you told, like another sibling.

If you have other siblings, the same might have been happening to them. Or they may have seen something!!

Keep and cover the bed, if he ejaculated! It will go into the mattress and DNA can be recovered. The state police and I dug us some samples of a carpet and found remnants that were used in court.

There are witness advocates, If you told your mother and she did nothing to stop it, that is neglect

Don't wait, there are plenty of people willing to help you!

since you are a minor child it should be reported sweetie. you can call the police! This person who abused you might do it again and not let his victim live to tell. Tell a teacher or a school psychologist, tell someone you know and trust! go to a hotline to report it first call for help, im so sorry to hear that. your mother should report him, she might feel bad she put you in harm. you shouldn't feel ashamed cause its not your fault. i was conned into inapropriate touch and i felt too embarressed to tell anyone so i know how that feels. please stay safe! i think your mom should help you in bringing charges it sounds like she could give a positive id. She could also be a witness for your case. Also if you have had sudden changes in your school, every day life or how you act differently than you used to is an indication something is wrong...all of these facts can be used in court. I study law and by no means should this be construed as legal advice! I just know that there are other cases like the Micheal Jackson case that it was the boys word against his. But every case is different. You should seek help immediately with law enforcement because the longer a case goes, the tougher it is to solve. God bless you... you deserve justice. It's our right to protect children from these slimebags!

first of all, please remember that you are not hopeless in this case. whatsoever, the court is for justice! You did not stated your location, as you know, different country governt by different law. However, this is a serious offence and it's happened for so long, seven years. you must believe that the court wil give you justice. there is hope for this case!
you just mentioned abuse, but to what extand? if he raped you, you can go to a Hospital to do a check up. the doctor would be a good witness to support your case.
even if there is no any witness beside you yourself, dont get into frustration, because the judge would always take serious on cases like this, and remember, no one will commit this kind of offences in front of others! so, dont worry too much about this. as you said, your mother know about this, if she can be your witness, than of course this would be a bonus for your case. even if your mother not willing to do so, dont worry, you still have the chance to win over the case.

what you can do now is,lodge a police report at your area and seek for legal advise from a practising lawyer in your country. if you have financial difficulty in consulting a lawyer, i believe in many countries there is legal aids council. please go and look for the legal aids center at your area, if you dont know about this, ask the police to give you information on this. they will definetely have access to this resources. or you can look for some Non-govermental organization who provide this kind of service especially for abused women. one of it is NCWO - National Council of Women Organisation, i believe NCWO exist in many countries over the world, since you are able to access to internet, you can always try to search for any non- govermental women organisation at your country, i believe they will always there to help, and they always have they own legal team on a voluntary basis. Or you can try to seek advice from some non-profit counselling center.

one thing to remind you is that when you lodge a police report, you always can ask for a policewomen to handle your case instead of a policeman.

Go see an attorney, almost any will give the first consultation for free. After that you have more info and can decide if you want pursue it further but expect a long drawn out process that could be very expensive for you.

Go to the cops. Do it now, because there IS a statute of limitations on this, and he WILL do it again to some other kid if he has a chance.

Child sexual abusers DON'T stop until someone stops them. Keeping silent will do nothing but give him a chance to do it to someone else.

Your Grandparents might actually be the way out. If you do not have anyone else to go to. I'm sure they love you and would want to know about this. Tell them and get advice from them. Do it now don't wait. It will only get worse, like someone else said he won't stop until someone stops him.

well if he is touching you now that is a slam dunk case if you act now! but you said you do not want your grand parents in on it. so if he cools off for a year or more touching you that is or molesting then it would be hard to prove and most likely dead case unless he put his semen in you then you got a case but good luck Dear.
