Because cats still have that small link to big cats. It's their nature to hunt and prowl at night. Thats when they can see the best and it's cooler. My cats would always sleep during the day, but once evening come especially after we all were tucked in, off they'd go tear assing all over the place a sound like a hurd of elephants had moved in. Lion or kitten. they all like to sleep during the day to rest, digest a meal and wait for night for the big hunt again.

They are very well adapted to night life. They can see in the dark (whiskers, eyes glow). Hunting at night for survival is instinct. It is hot in the daytime. So sleep and prowl at night. Or if they are fixed they just patrol and watch the neighborhood goings on! They mark their territory at night. Scratching the areas like fences and trees. And urinating in areas of boarder of their own territory. Can't do all this in the daytime. Just to much activity and danger.

Have u ever seen the musical Cats? Cats have a different life and name when they are out at night time. They party all night and sleep all day! Lucky things.

Cats are mostly nocturnal. They tend to be less active during the day, while at night they are at their most active. That explains why you may hear rustling or jingling (if you have cat toys).
Same goes for different ages of cats, besides, they can see in the dark better than light really, so why would they NOT want to be active at night.
It is kind of like us, we adapt to changes in light, and so do they.
Cats eyes adapt more quickly and effectively than humans to the dark. Resulting in their better vision.

Because of evolution.
before they evolved into the tame cat we know they were vicious like tigers. And most of the cat family are nocturnal, which means they only sleep during day, and wake up at night. Thatts why their eyes are slits, to attrack and concentrate all light, so they can see.
Hope this helps...

They are simply nocturnal because for a long time they were just meant for mouse and rat catching on farms and before they were domesticated they saught the same prey. These prey are all also nocturnal. Sleeping is just the cat's way of waiting them out. its instinct, knowing that food isn't going to be available till after dark.

All cats (except lions) are adapted to quiet stealth. They hunt at night, when they have an even better advantage.
So naturally, having hunted all night, my cat needs to get her sleep during the day.

Because they like it. Cats sleep very much and are more active during the night (they come from a predator family, you know...)
