i don't if it's me or its just a "mid - life" crisis thing. although i'm just 18 yrs old... i keep on thinking that i might just snap at any moment and go crazy... maybe because i'm feeling lonely or maybe its just the side effects of my medicine (i have hypothyroidism - i hear that it may cause chemical imbalance in the head) or maybe because i think i have depression and/or anxiety... i still do normal stuff and all those things... but whenever i think i'm depressed (i researched about the symptoms and effects) i get worried that it would only take 1 event to make me snap out of my mind... and the worst i have imagined yet is that i might go crazy and kill myself w/o knowing it.. i know it's too far - fetched.. i think i'm paranoid... i don't know.. help?!

Don't worry. You're exaggerating things.

Chances are high that you are not going crazy. You are probably overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions, and you don't have the capacity to handle them all in a healthy way. Mostly, "crazy" people don't know that there is something wrong with the way they perceive reality. It seems that you have a grasp of reality but just feel like you're drowning because of all of its demands. Hypothyroidism can make you feel weird--tired, thirsty, confused, etc. But hypothyroid medications don't have strong side effects at all. Anxiety, on the other hand, can make you feel a little like you're going out of your mind, because your system gets overloaded with so many thoughts, feelings, and chemical reactions that you can't sort through them. It would be good to see a doctor about controlling your anxiety. It seems unlikely that you'll kill yourself without knowing it, and you're probably not paranoid, either, since people who are paranoid are convinced of their fantasies and don't question whether they are perceiving reality accurately. ... See a doctor and/or a therapist. You're young enough to get this stuff under control before it consumes your life. Depression gets worse the longer it's untreated.

Ummm..... I feel you are intelligent over board and getting drowned in your own tidal wave logic. Not that I am trying to deny what U were saying. But when answers become questions out of your investigation. But... looking at the simple side... why not push those thoughts what bothering you aside?? Why not go play with little children or help someone who rewards you with a genuine smile??? Do not let yourself look towards yourself. As long as you do this you seem to be crushed deeper in to depression. The best way is to develop an active hobby that would keep you so busy and will never allow you to look within... Good luck to you.....

mid life crisis at 18?
Do yourself favor ...talk to somebody.
Because it DOES sound like depression/anxiety which a readily treated with meds.
I just posted to another person.
Do not get overburdened with the currently in vogue illnesses.

I have gone to AA meetings and heard people say...
I am an alcoholic and I am bi-polar and have ocd and am also a sex addict.
thats a bit much.
talk to professional.

My favorite line from one flew over the cuckoos nest was when Mac Murphy told group.
"you're no crazier than the average asshole walking down the street"

seriously...how many happy go lucky people are out there?
I sure don't see them..
except on TV.

If you have the presense of mind to ask yourself if you're crazy you probably are not, however I would suggest you think about seeing a counselor, and definately tell your physician about how you are feeling in a general manner. Medical doctors are not qualified for psychoanalysis generally but they do have the training to not only look at possible side effects of your meds but also refer you to a qualified therapist. Good luck and hang in there!

Yeah you sound like a creative type. You would make a good writer of some sort. Creative people think of all possibilities and sometimes it freaks them how far fetched thier ideas become. As long as you stay anchored and perhaps focus that creativity, like writing, youll be fine. Just dont freak out that you might be freaking out. Good luck.

That really sounds like anxiety or panic disorder to me..do you have any other symptoms?

Symptoms of Panic attacks:
Racing or pounding heartbeat
Chest pains
Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea
Difficulty breathing
Tingling or numbness in the hands
Flushes or chills
Dreamlike sensations or perceptual distortions
Terror - a sense that something unimaginably horrible is about to occur and one is powerless to prevent it
Fear of losing control and doing something embarrassing
Fear of dying

You should see a doc..there's no need to suffer. :)
I had depression and anxiety and started taking zoloft...it's helped immensely. My only regret is waiting so long before seeking help.
Good luck!

Go rafting or rock climbing now. Sounds like cabin fever. Start by getting some perspective and go from there.
