I can't close my cat or his food up--I free fed. I can't close the dog off without closing out the cat. i don't want to put it on the counter. It is getting very frustrating.

Thanks for the answers. I put the food in the bathtub. No one uses that bath and my dog is small so she can't jump in. Why didn't I think of this sooner? I just needed help to get my creative juices flowing!

I don't like having my cats on the counters either. Is there someplace low that the dog cannot reach (but you can) such as under a cabinet?
I have seen people use a medium-large size Rubbermaid bucket as a cat house but cut a small opening in the side like a cat door and put the cat food in there. It works well as a bedding spot, too, or litter pan container, because you can take the lid off to clean it out, put in food, or get the cat. Good luck!

Must seperate the food or animals, only choice. Or place cat food in a location only the cat can get too.

Try a box that is weighted down but only has an opening big enough for the cat to enter. Might work. Even an upside down laundry basket that has a hole cut in it would work. Just weigh it down or something so the dog can't move it and cause a mess.

your best bet is to find a place where the cat can go but the dog can't. I used to put mine in the top tower of my cat scratch condo. you can also use an upside down crate with a hole in it for the cat, or find a suitable alternative for placing the bowl up high. putting the cat bowl on the counter is very unsanitary as the cat walks in the ickiest of places so my advice would be to put the food where there is the least chance of bacterial transfer.

I am sure that there is some physical arrangement you could make. Either put the cat dish higher up, or in a box with a door that the dog can not get into. There is also no reason that the animals' need to eat in the kitchen.

I am sure that your cat is more agile than your dog. (Unless it is 20 years old.)

Put the cat food up high like on the fridge, where the dog cannot reach.

i would just set the food out at certain times so the cat can eat and you will be able to watch the dog so that its not getting the cat food.

Feed your cat 1 or 2 times a day when you are there to supervise.

Get a little table for your cat. Tall enough to keep the dog away, small enough to keep out of your way.

Is there a stool you can put it on? We used to have to feed our cats on a bench so that our dogs couldn't eat their food. We couldn't feed either of them outside, or the racoons would eat everything.
