I agree, for a guy, probably not that important. It can send a message though-- after all, if you dressin an outlandish way, or totally slob-like, then obviously you may be showing disinterest, or may draw attention to your clothes specifically, when the date should be about getting to know each other more (hopefully). Of course, if that's your style, then I say go for it, and see if the guy digs it.
