You are right, when u pray u r talking to your SELF, this self is where u realise Christ within. This solace is the place which u get solace. Going to church, is going to church. It does not mean that they are believers. Actions like Jesus, sharing, supporting, helping people is really going to Church. Practising what Jesus practised is going to church, otherwise it is another pass time, routine.
God is always there, when u make a wish, god listens, but most people do not practice patience. God delivers when u r ready. You can not teach higher education to todlers. Let's look at your belief - "he is never there when u need him the most". Now what u r doing is: U want to catch a ball and what u r actually doing is kicking it and running after it. The moment u make the statement like above, u create doubt. Where there is doubt, there is no belief. Where there is belief, there is no doubt. You can not have the cake and eat it too.

SOME PEOPLE ASK THE QUESTION WHERE IS GOD? THE ONLY ANSWER I HAVE IS THAT HE IS IN THE SAME PLACE HE WAS WHEN CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS. IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE FULL PICTURE OF THE LIFE, DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF CHIRST, THEN YOU MIGHT THINK THAT GOD WAS BEING CRUEL. BUT HE WASN'T. GOD SO LOVE THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. HE DID THIS SO THAT ALL OF US WOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. PEOPLE SOME HOW GET THE MISCONCEPTION THAT WHAT FEELS GOOD IS GOOD AND THAT PAIN IS BAD. CHANGE IS PAINFUL. YOU MAY HAVE TO CHANGE TO REACH A HIGHER LEVEL OF FAITH SO THAT YOU CAN RECIEVE WHAT YOU ARE ASKING OF GOD. WHEN YOU TALK TO GOD HE IS ALWAYS THERE. THAT IS WERE YOUR FAITH MUST COME IN AND BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN WHAT IS LATEN AND WHAT IS MANIFESTED. WHEN YOU ASK GOD FOR WHATEVER YOU ASKED HIM FOR, KNOW THAT IT IS DONE IN THE SPIRIT REALM AND HAVE PATIENTS FOR IT TO BE MANIFESTED IN THE PHYSICAL REALM. THE BIBLE SAYS ASK AND YOU SHALL RECIEVE. THE WORD SHALL IS DEFINENT, NO MAYBES ABOUT IT. IT ALSO SAYS WE WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT. IT IS SATAN'S JOB TO MAKE US THINK THAT GOD IS NOT THERE. DON'T LET HIM TRICK YOU. HIS PLAYING FIELD IS YOUR MIND. IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU HAD A CHILD, YOU WOULD MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD NICE CLOTHES, GOOD HEALTH, A SOUND MIND AND WERE WELL PROTECTED. YOU DON'T ALWAYS TELL THEM WHAT YOUR DOING OR EVEN WHY YOUR DOING IT, BUT YOU DO EXPECT THEM TO TRUST YOU. TRUST THAT YOU HAVE THEIR BEST INTEREST AT HEART. THEY MAY THINK WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS MEAN OR THAT YOU ARE EXPECTING TO MUCH FROM THEM. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF AND YOU KNOW THAT WITH YOUR HELP AND GUIDENCE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. GOD FEELS THE SAME WAY ABOUT YOU. GOD LOVES YOU. IF HE DIDN'T HE WOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN YOU THE SPIRT TO SEEK HIM. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND MAY YOU ALWAYS BE ENCOURAGED.

He stands at the door waiting. All who will open up to Him. He will sup with.
That's speaking of Jesus. Satan doesn't want you to believe. Your faith is being tested. Don't give up. Many people pray like they are talking to the wall and very repetitiously. If I may, Try this. When you pray, instead of just saying the words, reach out with your mind and see Jesus standing before you, Then talk to Him. Talk to Him as if you are talking to a friend. He is your friend. Pour out your heart to Him and ask Him to come into your life. Then keep this vision with you and continue to pray thus.

dear it is the best question.
do you know that he is beyond your realm?you are sensitive to your realm.you can't go beyond that.you feel that God is not there because your realm is subset of God's realm.there are characters that you don't have but God has.in the other side he has all you have .let me expline it useing mathmathical exaple.
let your personality is a set of { a,b,c,d}
God's personality is a set of {a,b,c,d,e,g,h......}
your personality is has the elements a,b,c,d.so you know and understand only a,b,c,d.but God's is much more than yours.so to understand that he is being there is you have to beilive.you don't have to compare praying with the conversation between persons.

Sometimes it seems like God isnt there, but its at those time your faith should kick in, and remind you that even though it feels that way, he is always there... always has been. I think sometimes God lets you feel things- like happiness and fufillment after praying, a happy event, a good outcome- and then other times, he lets things be quiet, as a way of seeing how you do. Put it like this- if you love God, do you love him just for those good times, for those good feelings you get? Or is it when things are really rough, you are still trying to pray, still thankful for what you have, and letting him know you love him. The best way to think on this is the story of JOB, which many religions refer to, as a person of faith tested in hard times. I read it years ago and it helped me see things differently.
And as far as church goes, certianly, there are people there maybe going out of a sense of obligation, that may be feeling trials in their faith, and may be feeling alone. The good thing is that they are still excersizing their faith.
Sometimes when prayer and church attendance is hard, you can offer up different forms of prayer. Doing things for others, for instance- give it to God as a form of prayer. Silent meditation- many religions practice it- is another form of prayer. Simply talking to God, as a friend, another way to pray. I try to thank god daily for the day- wether it be I woke up today or appreciating something I see in nature or people, and grattitude for things that go well, and always try to ask for help when its bad times. I think the more you try to talk to God, the closer you will feel, as you are his creation, and he loves you, and wants to be close to you too.
Hope this helps.

"YOU do ask, and yet you do not receive, because you are asking for a wrong purpose . . . Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." (James 4:3, 8) Those words of Jesus' disciple James may well prompt us to consider our reasons for praying.

god is feeling. it is like electricity. you can feel it. but you can not see it. in fact, god is within you. temples, churches, holy books, holy men all are there to reflect him who is in you. for getting this god realisation you have to answer th question ' who am i?' if you meditate on this deeply you will find that you are not physical body, mind or intellect. but you are the pure awareness ' i am' who is witness to all these and any one else is witnessing him. and if you reach this realisation all doubts will disappear and you will be in the ocean of everlasting joy.

It doesn't seem like he's there because he's not! When you pray you ARE talking to yourself. God doesn't exist.

The feeling that he isn't there is a clue to show you that he isn't.
It isn't a test from god, so much as it is a test from reality.
Will you pass the reality test.
The evidence for god is quite weak. That is my big clue as to the likely lack of a god.
Take care of yourself.
