This is the last thing America needs, but paradoxically, it is moving in that very direction. Sure, they *talk* about God a lot, but if you look more carefully, they want an *awful* lot of power and are not willing to submit to the rule of law.

To put it another way, the Chinese government does have a god - or even two now: the State, and economic prosperity; I would say that in the case of the United States, there is only one: the State. After all, the present government has ruined the economy. At the beginning of its first term, there was a financial surplus; now there is a deficit greater in magnitude than that surplus they started with.

So evidently their god is they themselves and whatever it is they are spending their money on. Which amounts to maintenance of power (or the illusion thereof). I am glad that the press is still free (more or less) to carry out its function of holding the government accountable to the people, finally they are making progress, the Supreme Court has not proved as 'obedient' as I'm sure the executive branch had hoped. May that 'disobedience' continue...

Though the idea of a supreme being will never go away (people have to believe in something to give their lives some sort of meaning and no accountability) I have hope that over the next century, the idea of god will become another fairy tale like the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.

After all, there are people that still believe the earth is flat and 6,000 years old.

*Shrugs* some atheist or agnostics would an intresting change of pace ... would be curious to see what kinda laws they passed with out bassing them off dogma's.

But aslong as personal freedoms stay the same I wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

Some of the atheist are just as bad at pushing there faith on other people as those with dogma's. Long as it's the more open minded types that belive in the freedoms this country was founded on it might even be good for the goverment to see some open change in religon in those in power.

Yeah to secular government. Nay to communism. Wouldn't work in our society, too much corruption higher up.

You wanna live in a theocracy, move to Iran.

More atheism would be great. But, an oppressively communist government like China isn't optimal.

Why would you say that? Americans have the right to choose what religion they're going to be, it shouldn't be chosen for them.
