Well saying that you "never liked them in the first place" is rude, crude and unnecessarily hurtful. How would you like it if someone did that to you? To be a true man, you have to be tactful, but direct. Say, "It isn't going to work between us, we don't have enough in common. I don't want to date you." They will still feel some rejection, but at least they won't feel like pond scum.

That confusing , why did you start knowing them and continue , when you never like them ? I suppose just say , I think your nice but I am looking for someone a little different than you are .A turn down but nice .If they ask What , Why ,Etc., reply I'll know when I meet her , but I'm sure it's not you .Please don't be mad that I'm honest , I really didn't want to hurt you now or later .Be the guy that got away , not the one that was just hurtful and mean .But get the point across Firmly !

Just be honest and tell them the truth. Telling them straight out is better than beating around the bush and letting them have some false hope that something might happen.

You don't need to be cruel and tell them you never liked them. Instead, just say that you are not attracted to them. It is even better than saying you just want to be friends.

Just go up them, look them in the eyes. Say, "I know you like me, but I just don't share the same feelings. I am sorry, can we still be friends?"
