its great to have a buddy to hang out with. Just be prepared for your first cat to adjust to the new kitten. it takes about a week or so for the cats to adjust to the invasion into their territory. Make sure the kitten is in a kennel for the first few hours until the older cat gets used to the new scent and noises from the kitten. when you let the kitten out just make sure there is someone there to referee the squabbling that is guaranteed to happen as the older cat hits the jealousy stage. The older cats adjust to the younger kittens quickly and will soon tolerate it and then let the friendship begin. Enjoy!

Does your cat want company? Careful, because male cats are very possessive of their area and could kill a new kitten or get depressed. If, however, the cat wants company, a second cat does not make a difference really. The care you give them is the same (you feed them together, you clean the litter box as you would anyway, etc), and they play with each other so you are not concerned with them all the time. When you go away it is not a big difference to arrange for 2 cats instead of 1, especially if the can be carried in the same cage. The expenses are double, of course.

Alright look, since you did not get a dog the answer is simple. A cat is an independent creature and truly they can go there whole life without company of another cat. Instead of you to arguing just let the cat have some peice because it truly doesnt care if it has a companion. Oh and anyone who's maor is about to be zoology (aka me) or even someone who hangs around animals should know this..no offence.

I have heard that Ferrets make good and lively pets for cats. I think they are a little more difficult to take care of, but if your state allows ferrets to be kept as pets, they are a very entertaining option. My sister has 3! Ferrets are very social, and friendly. They can survive well in a small flat, but you should definatly 'ferret proof' the flat.
Although, cats are pretty independant and don't usually require companions so you would probably be alright without giving it a companion either way.

Having had cats it is a bad idea.
Cats are not pack animals like dogs or humans.
A new cat is invading his turf and they will be fighting over who is top cat all the time and the weaker one gets bullied all the time.
Sometimes the origonal cat may leave.
They won't be happy despite your best intentions.
Possibly if they were from the same littler, even mum and kitten groups fight and get upset.
Parrots on the other hand need a mate and mate for life and cockatoos like groups, cats don't.

since he is just a boyfriend and not committed to you at all, you should just do whatever you want. When he gets ready to leave, you will be sorry you didn't get the cat. Then the next guy that comes along will know you with two cats...if you get a new cat for every guy you get passed thru, you'll have a ton by the time you're 25.....

Well if you want the added expense and vet bills of a new cat then go ahead..
Personally, I wouldn't. Your cat has you and your boyfriend for company , and when you guys are out at work, he loves the peace and quiet and can do his sleeping in peace, catch spiders and flies and eat them.
It may be worth, before you make your final decision, to look up how easy or difficult it is to introduce a new kitten to a mature MALE cat who has already established his territory in your home.
Good luck, you nutty cat woman you! :)

Just Read this...
Once upon a time there was a school called Degrassi,
And the children and the tenants were all fat and sassy.
Except for one little boy and his name was Rick,
People pushed him around untill he turned into a Frick.
And took a gun, took a gun, took a very big gun,
To degrassi to have himself a little bit of fun.
Then bang shot Jimmy,
And pointed it at Emma.
With Sean in the way oh what a big elimma.
But then Rick died,
And everything was fine.
Except Ashley’s kinda freakin,
After Craig lost his mind, and proposed at a party with his puppy dog eyes.
And Ashley Refused,
What a big surprise When he cried like a baby,
And went back to his hotel.
Fucked up the room and stuck Joey with a bill,
Then he went to a wedding and acted like a whore.
And he kicked Joey’s a*ss and he cried a little more.
Hey, remember back when Manny and Jt were going out,
And Jt was doing good but then began to doubt.
That his little stack of dimes couldn’t measure up to Craig’s
When he saw it in the locker room between Craig’s legs.
So in order to get out of his romantic slumps,
Some black kid gave him a magic penis pump.
But Manny found out and to make matters worse,
It turned out that Mr. Raddish used it first.
Well Paige got raped,
And Marco is gay.
Spinner gets boners and farts all day,
Toby is a dork,
And liberty is too.
Snake got cancer up the kazoo.
Sean’s on his own,
And Ellie likes to cut.
Alex is a b*tch,
And Manny is a s*lut.
Emma is kinda whiney,
And Terry got hit.
Hazel doesn’t never seem to do Jack-s*hit.
Degrassi is my favorite thing,
When the theme song plays, I always have to sing.
I hope that it never goes off the air,
I’d even miss Spinner’s hair.

In my experience with three female, and one male cat, they got along well together. They would groom one another, and I think the company was stimulating for them, if not always enjoyable.
Since some cats are real loners, it would be good to "borrow" a kitten for a short time, to see how he handles it. I have seen a male cat "play" with kittens. He would lay down, and swish his tail, letting the kitten chase it. He actually had brought the kitten into the house, and gave it to my mom, it happened to be Mother's Day. We had assumed he was delivering his kill. He ignored the kitten completely for a few weeks, then started tolerating it.
If your cat is still a kitten, I think it would learn to get along with another kitten. If you choose to get another cat, I have read to introduce them slowly. Rub each of them with a cloth, and letting the other sniff it. Then, rubbing them with the cloth to get a mingling of scents. Then when used to this common scent, introduce them for short periods, perhaps feed them together at opposite ends of the room.
I have only had one male cat, and he got along fine with my others. Occasionally, my cats would have spats over who got to sit on the "good" chair, but no real fighting occurred. However, my neighbor's male cat would come over to my yard, and tear up my cats. He'd inflict bloody ears, etc. So I think it is a matter of individual personality.

All my life, I've been around cats, and I've noticed that when you have more than one cat, they seem to live longer. All of my cats have made it past 20 years! However, you really need to consider how old you're cat is. If he/she is somewhat older and has not been around other cats, I really don't recommend it then. Cats are natural loners and a companion is usually something they don't need if they were raised alone. I say this because they do have a tendency to fight, and hard.
