My brother has a very bad drug addiction. He's been stealing money from me and trying to take my car without my permision. Since I wouldnt let him take the car hes threatening to call the cops and accuse me of doing something that I didn't even do. Hes currently on bond for some drug charges and awaiting trial. Should I send him to rehab till he goes back to jail or should I pull his bond so he can start doing his time now instead of waiting for trial.

If you can get him to go willingly into rehab and you can afford it, sure, send him. Might look good when he goes back to trial. I didn't think you could pull a bond until you had proof he violated conditions surrounding it. If you can't get him to go willingly into rehab (If you force someone to go, it really won't help long term), and you CAN pull the bond, then do it. He'll certainly detox there and you might end up saving his life. But in the meantime, stay on his goodside the best you can and be encouraging of him, showing you believe he can do better, whatever you need to convince him of so he won't take off and jump bond. Because if he does that, you end up getting screwed.

My brother has a very serious drug problem as well. If he told me that he was going to call the cops and accuse me of something I did not do, I would certainly beat him to the punch. First of all, I might record a conversation with him about the accusation to prove it is a set up. Then I would go to the police and explain his drug problem, explain what he has already done to you because of it and then detail the accusation he may make in the future because of it. Many innocent people get dragged through the system and end up with convictions...all based on the testimony of one person...yes, even without evidence. Please don't think that just because you didn't do anything, you won't go to jail for it. If he delivers his accusation with sufficient credibility, you could be arrested, held for a length of time, then end up waiting around in pins and needles for a court date to "prove your innocense" which is nearly impossible to do. I know they say innocent until proven guilty but that just isn't the way it truly works.

Be proactive.

Neither, jail will never help him and rehab is not going to help him unless he really wants to go. Putting him in jail is gonna cause problems between you two. Me, myself don't wish jail on anyone but child molesters. Being an addict shouldn't be a crime and if you are in the u.s, well, California at least its like the worst thing you can possibly do in the systems eyes. If you have to do jail or rehab, go for rehab, he can get help there and maybe it will click in his head to take advantage of the place. But I do think you should talk to him first try to reason with him, tell him it is for his benifit.

Jail will get him out of your hair - he may not agree to rehab. If he is stealing money and wanting to take your car, he is going to be a constant thorn in your side until he gets help. I don't think you can force someone to go to rehab, unless you have a court order. If he has drug charges pending he will probably end up in jail anyways. Sorry to sound so cold, but drug users only care about one person: themselves. You need to protect yourself, in case he does try to cause you trouble with the police.

Jail now. I aint being mean but me and some friends just went through the same thing with another friend. Stole for money to buy drugs etc. We made sure he got locked up. He had already been to rehab 4 times "3 on his own" but now that he is out hes been clean for 8 months.

alright I was in the same situation you are like a few months ago. Rehab will help to an extent on his trial that he is awaiting. Also if you go ahead and have his bond revoked the time he is doing will go toward his sentence.... If you think that he can be convinced his problem is real then put him in rehab.

I can speak a little about what i would do as I have had to. First off I assume you Love your brother want him to do whats right and have a better life. Offer him these 3 choices
If you have to choose for him I feel there are 3 choices also you choose
1. Call a program ... he needs help
2. Call the police ... At least he'll be safe and can't harm himself.
3.Call the morgue ...last choice but without one of the other 2 that's who will be calling you sooner or later.
That's what I told my daughter she wasn't pleased and I have not heard from her, although I understand she told my grandaughter she is turning herself in on a volition of probation. Also I have learned that before it becomes and addiction or a disease, it first and formost is a decision, one they make to use, and have total disreguard for everyone that cares about them... Just do something because it won't get better without him wanting it to, hope this helps some, I know it's tough, But no one really wants to give up on someone else.

Do you have the money to send him to rehab? If you do, then sure why not send him to rehab. Keep in mind if he doesnt want to go to rehab then he might try escaping and then you will be in a tough spot. If he isn't trust worthy then you need to just let him deal with his problems and stay in jail and serve his time.
Him threatening you is a bunch of crap. As long as you haven't done anything there will be no proof - and it will be your word versus a crackhead.

He will not die in jail. Drugs will no doubt kill him. That sucks for you and him. Jail will sober him up and save his life. Rehab of course is a far better option. No to mention how much better him being in rehab will appear to the courts. In fact tell him if he goes to rehab the judge will for sure be impressed but if he is in jail AGAIN on drug charges the judge will lock him up and throw away the key. Even if he goes to rehab just to escape jail time it may sink in~
Hang in there~

The problem with sending him to rehab is if he is over 18 he can check himself out whenever he wants. Jail wouldn't necessarily be better. Somehow they still get access to drugs. Good luck.
