You can listen on the sides of her chest. The easiest way to locate the heart on a dog is to lay her on her side, and bend her front leg at the elbow. Where her elbow bends, listen at that site on her chest. Without a stethoscope, you might have some trouble hearing, but you should get something. A normal heart rate for a dog is usually 80-150 beats per minute, depending on the size of the dog, and whether it is painful, scared, etc.

You can either feel for the apex beat by placing your hand over the dogs chest on the left side at the point of the elbow (when it is raised) or you can feel for a pulse on the inner thigh. To do this find the triangle where the muscle bellies are going in 2 different directions and feel in between them at the very top of the inner thigh.
The heart beat should be 80 - 160 beats/minute but may be marginally greater or slower depending on activity level

It concerns me that your dog has a vomiting and diarrhea and now you are asking about taking it's heart rate. Please contact a vet tonight, this animal sounds in great distress.

play some reggae.

haha, jk.

take her to the vet where she/he can perform a cardiological exam and tell you if your dog has a murmur, PDA, mitral insufficiency (murmur), or other problems. cardiac problems can be serious so make an appointment right away if you are concerned with anything!! and keep your dog on heartworm prevention!!!

Place your hand on the left side of her chest (almost in her armpit) and count the times it beats. Why are you asking?
