OK... read about the fertility god kokopelli now. Still not a sin, I guess?

So... as long as they aren't worshipping the "false god" that is playing a flute in the general direction of his penis, it's OK then?

I've only seen this in upbeat, upscale, beach combers fun houses....did I say on the beach?

I know it's the kokopeli, did I spell that right?, he's like a fertility god and such but in my area of Florida he's an icon for either yuppies who have too much money and not enough things to spend it on......or he's there to help spread the bud about the room.

Most of the "christians" I know in bible belt usa, don't even have a clue who this is or else they'd be up in arms about it too.

It is Kokopeli. I have not noticed the Kokopeli motif in ANY Christian homes, not that there is anything wrong with it. No I don't think that it would be considered a sin to use it as a decoration.

Now, if they were worshiping Kokopeli while they were in the shower, then it may be a problem with their religion. But no, just for decoration??? Don't be silly. You must know some really uptight Christians to ask that question. Either that, or you are just looking for a way to make Christians look like they are hypocrites. This isn't going to get it, though.

Its Kokopelli. Its a symbol in Pueblo cultures.

I'm a Christian, and part Native American and I still decorate my homes with native art from my culture. My room still has my totem clan decorated with it, is it a sin? No, God created me and the family I was born in. I am not worshipping the turtle symbols of my culture, or other symbols.

But I do think its disrespectful to decorate yourself with symbols if you don't know what they mean. Its disrespectful to any culture. My Clan isnt as much of a spirituial aspect as it is a historical and family aspect. I respect my culture, and I respect the traditions of my culture. I honor the great creator, I just Call him God now.

Decorating your Christian Home with "Gods" would be considered sinful.

Many things Christians do are sinful Many things the world thinks of no consequence are very important indeed. If Christians knew that it was more than a pleasing design they would probably not have it in their homes but most do not know. Many who are not Christians might not welcome this fellow either. To most that is all that it a funny little man print on a shower curtain but ignorance is not an excuse. The world, all of us, have been deceived and only His return can bring us the Truth

Its a Kokopeli. I live in the Southwest, and the Kokopeli in this area is very popular as part of the decor. We have it on buldings, street signs, and the Navajo and Anasazi Indians who are native to my area, often sell these, and do VERY well. It is a fertility symbol.

They do not mean anything to us here, except that many people, even the Navajo Indians themselves, will steer clear of certain ones as they are said to hold great "powers". To us, its a cultural thing, and nothing more, part of our history as a state. As long as people are not worshipping it, than theres no problem owning one, but hearing some of the local stories about these little guys, many people will not have one, and believe me, living in an area rich with it, and the stories, even as a Christian, it's a little spooky. As long as they arent worshipping it, its not biblically wrong. Idol worship, worship of a graven image, yes, but just to own one, no.

Nice cut and paste, Trent.

Side note, my Aunt, a christian, recieved one as a gift from a friend whose husband had passed away. She kept it a week, as it moved from room to room in the middles of the night. Now, I dont believe in that stuff, and she didnt either, but she could not get rid of it fast enough.

I don't have anything like that in my home..

the little guy is Kokopelli, Flute Player widely held beliefs that Kokopelli was a fertility symbol, roving minstrel or trader, rain priest, hunting magician, trickster, and seducer of maidens..."

"In Pueblo myths, Kokopelli carries in his hump seeds, babies, and blankets to offer to maidens that he seduces. In upper Rio Grande pueblos, he wandered between villages with bags of songs on his back. As a fertility symbol, he was welcome during corn-planting season and was sought after by barren wives, although avoided by shy maidens."

He's the Native American equivalent to the Easter Bunny (sort of).

"Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player (often with a huge phallus and antenna-like protrusions on his head),. . ."

It's kokopelli, and he's just a desert symbol. Something for Arizona. he symbolizes desert, fun, music, life....stuff like that. Not a sin-figure though.

Only if they are praying to their curtains. Otherwise to most Christians this will only look like an intersting design with a cool looking Indian dude, with no understanding of who it represents.
So no it would not be a sin. It's just a curtain.

aren't we nit-picking just a little too much here? I don't know who this guy is supposed to be except that he is some human playing an instrument. I don't see any problem with having him for decoration.
