during the big bang there was a element reaction between carbon and zinc, the intence amount of pressure that was forced upon these too elements caused an interesting and amazing phenomenon called "cheesening"
this cheesening phenomenon forced cheese particals to be projected across the cosmos for millions of light years.
the largest knowen cheese planet is 40 million light years from earth and is called "cheddarallas" which is where we now get cheedar cheese from, however the cheese that our moon is made from is swiss cheese, this was the result of our moon passing through a belt of space rock that caused the swiss cheese style holes in our moon.

Even though the moon is not made of cheese (thank goodness, as it might have rotted or gone moldy long ago or caused a big stink as it would not fit in the refrigerator), it does appear to look like it does. Check out the site below. I like cheese too, perhaps that is one reason the rumor got started, from so many people liking cheese!

You know, ACTUALLY that is a pretty good question.
I'm just going to take a guess.
All small children LOVE cheese. They probably chose cheese because that would be appealing to kids.
A LONG time ago, when that fable was written, cheese was expensive. It was a luxury for the poor in Europe. It might be because that would be like telling our children today it is made of silver or gold.
I'm just guessing. I really don't know but it sounds good. Logical, atleast.

Because the cows got tired of having to do all the work with making cheese.
Cheese is the greatest. By the way, did you know that the Moon is made solely of Swiss Cheese (craters & holes).
LOL !!
Have a lovely rest of the evening.

What else would you have it made out of. I mean come on if it was made from meat it would be attacked by all the aliens on their way here. If it was made from grapes it would be too dark for us to see. Lord how can you even fathom id being made from anything else but cheese. It has to be cheese since this is the only material god had too much of when he made the moon and he had to make the moon so that we can have waves at the beach. I mean think of it what would you do at the beach if it had no waves?

OMG Molly! A sencible answer?! lol
I think it's made of cheese because it looks like cheese and small kiddies like cheese (and all dairy for that matter) and their mothers and fathers tell them it's made of cheese because it looks like cheese and kiddies like it :D
But let me burst your safe bubble of dreams with a sharp piece of reality. I'm very sorry to do that but... *pop*
Here you go, now look, see? It's not made of cheese, it's actually grey and rocky and looks yellow only because sun reflects on it. Shame really I would love planets to be made of food, imagine how fast would the technology develop? By the 1990s we would've been eating Alpha Centauri and it's system planets!!!
