why do people go to a postoffice to mail something and it is not prepared to mail?

In India, of course, only post office staff have the authority to properly prepare parcels and other such items for post overseas.
On many occasions you may wish to check the cost of postage or acquire a specific item of packaging before being able to dispatch that which you wish to post. There are times, also that one may not have the correct postage in pre-purchased stamps. I do agree that some people appear to be unaware that they are actually at a post office or even a bus stop.

The whole problem eminates from the conglomerate of services now provided at the post office rather than just providing postal services.

Also; the post office has such a great atmosphere that people want to spend as much time there as they can.

I know when I go to the post office and I dont have my stuff prepared it is because I ran out of something i needed at home and could pick it up at the post office or I needed something that the post office had. Like packing tape or packing material. Other times some people just like to waste our time.

Disorganization. These are the same people that stare off into space while their two hundred and three items are scanned by the grocery cashier and then fumble for five minutes in their purse looking for their money after the goods are totalled as if the Revelation that they had to pay took them by surprise. These same people stand idly for twenty minutes waiting on a bus and then stand fumbling at the fare box looking for their tickets, bus pass or fare.

I am amazed everyday at how arrogant people are becoming. Some people don't care if you have to wait. Probably this person is in no hurry, but you need to leave quickly and get on to other matters. I cannot stand it when someone ahead of me pays using a couple different credit cards. I mean it really would have been so much easier to use just one card.

maybe they don't know what they need - i often buy boxes/ materials at the post-office but I sure as heck wouldn't hold up the line packaging it there
