You do not say how old you are or your sleeping arrangements. You also do not mention your weight or any specifics of any changes in living conditions or working conditions. All of these and many more will affect your ability to get a good nights sleep.
Three things you should not do withing 4 hours of trying to go to sleep are drinking coffee, sodas or tea. They all have caffeine in them and will keep you awake just by itself. Do not eat a large meal or even a small snack. Do not drink a large amount of water before going to bed. The bladder will cause you to wake up no manner how sound a sleeper you are. There are several medical conditions that can cause you not to get any sleep too. Consult your doctor for those. He will probably prescribe a sleep study if he finds that your physical condition is being affected. He will then make recommendations to solve the problem. Not getting enough sleep can cause some very serious medical problems so don't just put it off Go see your doctor. ps if all he does is hand you a perscription for sleeping pills get a new doctor.

You might have sleep apnea, speak to your doctor about a sleep study but first ask him for some literature on sleep. Get to bed the same time every night, wake up the same time every night. Never use your bed for anything other than sleep or sex. No watching TV in bed. Try not to take any long naps during the day. Exercise during the day. No caffeine after 2pm. Meditate before bed.Don't drink too much water before bed so you won't wake up to go to the bathroom at night. Don't exercise right before bed.Good luck I went through the same thing. I had 146 episodes an hour(sleep apnea) That's like every 30 seconds I would stop breathing. I didn'know until my girlfriend told me that when I sleep I'm scary, I stop breathing. You can die from that. It also is not good for your heart. Sleep is essential for toyu body to function all day. 8 hrs.

I would suggest doing some meditation just before you go to sleep. there are a lot of guided meditation tapes and cds available and maybe you could even download some meditation mp3's from the net and that too for free. so just give it a try.

Usually this helps if the reason for not being able to sleep is a chattering mind or some sort of tension and anxiety. It helped me a lot.

If you drink caffeine, don't drink it within 4 hours of your needing to be asleep.

If you tend to snack before bedtime, make certain it's a light snack.

Taking tryptophan and/or valerian root might help but check with your doctor.

Relaxing, in general, and making certain that where you're trying to sleep at is used primarily for that reason will help (your body will tend to react positively on a physical and emotional level to stimuli that it perceives to be sedating).

I stay away from caffeine drinks as much as I can. Sometimes if I read for a little while it will help me fall asleep. On nights where I'm really wound up and can't seem to relax, I take a couple Tylenol PMs and they knock me right out.

Try 3 mg of Melatonin one hour before bed. You can find it at any drug store; it is an herbal remedy for sleeplessness. No tv. Make sure your bedroom is not too warm. No caffeine or sugar 2 hrs before bed. No exercise late at night. Essential lavender oil spray on your pillow helps to relax you.

i have the same problem at times especially when im under alot of stress, but i find that doing deep breathing exercises relaxes the body and mind.or if you`re into fish, the bubbling sounds of an aquarium is also relaxing. OR ask your family doctor about your problem and maybe he can prescribe you some sleeping pills or somethin. good luck and hopefully sweet dreams........

Watch how much caffine you drink during the day. Try and get into a regular schedule. Or pick up a boring book (text books work the best for me :) and read until ya fall asleep.

I've heard to not toss and turn. Get out of bed and surf the net or read or clean. (UGH) and then try to go back to sleep a bit later. Good luck
