Each case is different. There is no set pattern. 2 people who were diagnosed with dementia at the same time will progress at different rates.
That is the frustrating thing for family and friends, there is no set guide, there is no yard stick to measure it by.
Not everyone who had dementia will be spiteful. There are cases where a sufferer can have been a sweet little old lady with nothing bad to say about anybody, but then the dementia takes over and they can become the complete opposite. Others will just stay with the similar personality with confusion, forgetfulness and the eventual loss of daily planning for activities.
Early dementia sufferers are quite often aware that they are sometimes confused or forgetful. They will tell you that some days they can remember everyting, then other days the fog sets in and there is a problem getting the brain to activate.
Demented people who are further advanced will actually not have a clue what they are doing. They may see no real problem with turning a tap on and walking away with it still running. When you ask them why they did that, they will have no recollection of even doing that in the first place.

That is not really an aspect of dementia. If they were spiteful before the dementia then they would be still. Usually while suffering from dementia a person does things they are not aware of. Saying something hurtful and not remembering it is something many people do, with and with out dementia.
Maybe you could discuss this with the diagnosing doctor.

Dementia is a generic term and covers a wide range of conditions. I am sure that people who have milder forms of dementia can be as cruel as you or I, and know that they are doing it while others, such as Alzheimer's sufferers, I would say on the whole are not. The part of the brain that deals with compassion and empathy etc, may have been destroyed by this terrible disease, and the person then no longer has the ability to express these emotions.

how old is that person? if she is old and most of her ancestors so to speak have had it, then it could be dementia because dementia is almost always genetic. but if she isn't old, it cannot possibly be dementia.. there several forms of amnesia that could describe her symptoms or it could also still be another thing. It can be a defense mechanism. Or try to recall.. this person probably might have hit his/her head weeks or months. some brain injuries are internal and may show symptoms later. It could also be the adverse effect of some drugs he/she is taking. This person should be advised to see a doctor.

People with dementia perceive the world in a fractured way.
Imagine you are having a nightmare. You wake up. You think that your nightmare has crossed over into reality. you are confused, scared, tired and you live in the past.
Understand?

Let me tell you.. I came across a woman so mean she stayed up nights cooking in her kitchen not only meals to serve to the boss the next day but also ways to manipulate the employees at work. It was so bad one person was so afraid of her she packed up and moved out of state in the middle of the night. I was to be her next victim and I have dealt with it for years now. Their Narcissistic. Look that up and take it from me, KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. Scott Peterson is one. Life to them is all about control. They play with your emotions and then spring into action once they beat you down. Give them power over anything and your done. Protect yourself from anyone with mean intentions and guard yourself from games. It makes me sick to my stomach when I hear anyone say how great they are, they will even brag about how good a lier they are and how everyone loves them. Well I can't move out of state (wish I could, I would). They seldom will have friends they feel are = or better then them and will watch every move people make. It's like chest for them only with people's lives. Good luck...............

Yes and no. The have alternate universes. She might think, in her mind, she is really doing something nice, but her brain shows her stuff back wards. it is horrible, for the person and theIr family! Hang in there!
SHE COULD JUST BE A ***** THOUGH!
