No need to buy a new one. Slightly rub the mouse with your finger for few minutes. With your nail remove cover and takeout a ball and suck it for 2 minutes but keep rubbing mouse. Clean the mouse with a piece of cloth untill mouse dont get wet

If you have a mouse with a trackball, try taking it out and cleaning it. If it is an optical mouse (with a red laser at the bottom), just wipe of the bottom with a towel. Maybe someone decided applesauce on your mousepad would be funny for april fool's . . .

And if that doesn't work, yes, you should probably buy a new one.

If you have an optical mouse, check underneath the see if somethings blocking the view of the lens. Sometimes a hair get's stuck in the opening of my mouse's lens and I have to fish it out.

Also, if you have an optical mouse, you may want to switch mouse pads. If you have a glossy mouse pad the lens in your mouse will just see a reflection and not work. (To see this in action, try using your mouse on a mirror.. it stops working)

does it have a ball? If it does...you can remove the ball and clean it. If not are you using a mouse pad? I don't and for some reason I get black little dots stuck to my desk....I scrape them off every once in a while with a credit card.

clean the trackball if you're mouse have one, else if you have an optical wired mouse, make sure the wire is properly connected to the port.
