If they do not make a habit of these late parties, no, I would not call. I tend to be as neighborly as possible. You never know when you might have a party that runs late and would want them to be tolerant. Now, if this is a regular thing, then yes, I would report them.

I have look at most of these answers and I call them POPCORN replies, instant, ineffective fixes.

There a huge number of things you should do before you call the Police. And the reason you take these steps is that a uncaring neighbor of loud music at the wrong time is not a level head person.

The first time it happens gut it out....have your children move to a quieter location; then plan. Take pictures of the party. The next morning, make a letter that all tenants agree to sign. Then, perhaps call the NONEMRGANCY POLICE ...report the incident..asked your name to be kept out of this...but show the police the letter.

Talk with your other neighbors

Another possible version of "speak softly but carry a big stick" is find some local "TUFF GUYS" ...I mean allot of tuff guys and gals.
Again, they approach at a decent hour..and make a level headed plee. Perhaps a gang? Perhaps Veterans? Perhaps neighborhood watch? Perhaps TV? How about them all.

This might be an unreal measures but here's my 2 cents.

The police have to go out and catch real criminals. Their are many laws on the books not enforced. Jail does not rehabilitate people, it makes them bitter.

America has more jails than any country in the world filled with "loud music playing people" and other misameador peoples.

Show love, not hate!

If you make a mistake in life, you don't want to go to jail my friend.

Technically you're supposed to ask them to get quiet yourself before calling the police. But I think that's a very BAD idea! If a party has been going on until 3am, you've definitely got some seriously ****** up people that do not want to leave the party. The liklihood of you getting into a physical altercation is just not worth it. I would call the police and ask them first hand if they report who made the call. If they don't, then make a complaint. If they do, you may have to suffer...or consider other places to set up shop in case there is backlash from your complaint.

Only in extreme and repeated circumstances. I live in a Neighbourhood where people show consideration for their Neighbours. When parties are thrown, you are either invited or a note is put through the door saying something like 'we are having a bit of a bash tonight, please don't hesitate to tell us if we are too noisy', which of course you wouldn't dream of doing after such politeness. If I had an inconsiderate neighbour who had more than a couple of very late and very loud parties a year, I think I would simply drop them a note the next day along the lines of ' It sounds like you had a great night but I would so appreciate it if you could keep it down a little next time, we are all a bit tired this morning!'. It is important not to get too spiteful or silly with neighbours, after all, you may be neighbours for years and you want them to turn a blind eye or a deaf ear occasionally!

If you know the neighbors then I would say go over or call them and let them know that they are being loud in order for them to get control of the party. I think after you have afforded them the opportunity to lower tone by telling them that yes, you do have the right to call the police if they fail to comply with your request. Make believers out of them--do not bluff. They will think twice next time--or at least next time when you go over or call them, they will know that you are serious and they will know what will happen next.

Good Luck.

We had neighbors that partied one night until sunup. They were outside and didn't get the hint when I put our outdoor light on. I got earplugs the next day but if it happens again, the police will definitely be involved. Neither I nor my husband are comfortable going over and talking to them as they seem like quite a rough bunch.

uh yeah. and if the cops don't do anything you might have to take i justice into your own hand. i know because there is an "American Legion" next door to me. it boggles my mind. what gives a person the right to do whatever the heck he wants and get drunk all day on taxpayer's money just because he was a Vietnam veteran. and besides that point, a lot of the time that there is trouble there are people who aren't veterans there who are taking advantages of the already undeserved funds they are receiving. i mean we should appreciate our war veterans but they should not get to do whatever the heck they want at the expense of many others. or even one other.

If it was my neighbor, I would have called by 11 pm. Decent people do not disturb their neighbors. Party or no party. Not great people to have as neighbors.

Absolutely. We had to in another place I lived, there was a house in back of us with a long driveway to the side of our property leading to it, and they'd do that all the time, and we'd call the police, which usually did something to calm it down.

If they are destrubing you Yes! They need to know they are bothering others! Some people have to get up early for work and some need their sleep! So if that happened to us my husband would go tell them to turn it down and then if they didn't he would call the police!
