Actually this story was a rewrite. If you read the Bible only the man was driven out of paradise. The woman stayed and Adam took up a second wife according to the Midrash. The name "Eve" was added later as Adam's wife and it only appears twice in the story. This addition placed before and after the "sin" incident gave the text an appearance Eve was also driven out, even though the text only mentions the man. This text also refers to Eve simply as "Adam's wife" so many times one must assume there was no original name associated with his wife.

They ate food comprised of a different sort of material which effected a physical change on their bodies, resulting in the principles of entropy and age taking effect. It was not actually a sin, but a transgression, in that they broke one law in order to fulfill a higher law. The Book of Mormon supports the Bible in saying that the only sin Adam and Eve committed was partaking of the forbidden fruit when they had been told not to do so. However, if Adam and Eve had not done so, "all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end. And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin. But behold all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy."

Adam and Eve had a party when dad was out on a business trip for the weekend. It was a real kegger too. God was so mad when he got back, because the whole garden was totally messed up, apples and leaves where everywhere. Apparently, all the animals came over and got fruit drunk. But you think God was made at them? Oh no, he just punished the humans. I think racism was involved...or would that be species-ism

Adam and Eve both willfully chose to disobey God's will for them. They put their wants ahead of God's will. They thought they knew better than their Creator what was in their best interest. Obviously, Adam and Ever were wrong and, unfortunately, every person born has made the same mistake, save Jesus. He alone led a sinless life, that is, a life completely devoted to obeying God's will over His own. The Bible refers to Jesus as "the Second Adam". It contrasts the First Adam's willingness to disobey God with Christ's willingness to obey, even to the point of dying on a cross.

They committed the ultimate sin of trying to be their own God. Genesis states, God forbid Adam and Eve to not eat the fruit from tree of knowledge. Once they ate it, God says "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." By disobeying God's command, the man try to become god himself, which is an ultimate sin... something that we do in this world everyday.. How many times do we worship our wealth?? Crave Power?? Most people do not submit to God and allow God to come to our lives and take over.. No we are too busy trying to be our own God..

Adam and Eve knew God intimately. They literally hung out in the garden. So we can assume that they admired God. So, when the snake said,...
"You will not surely die. God knows that when you eat this fruit your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing what is good and evil,..."
...they became prideful. They wanted to be like God, which by itself isn't bad, but they were willing to question the truth of God's word in not believing they would die.
It was bigger than just the act of disobedience. They thought they knew better than God, which is basically the same thing as putting yourself above his sovereignty.
Basically, this is the same thing Lucifer did, but on a smaller scale. Lucifer was an angel in heaven who decided he deserved to be worshiped and praised like God. He insighted a rebellion, so God is punishing him with eternal damnation.
God's punishment of Adam and Eve was not without mercy, though. They were cursed, but were not immediately obliterated from existance, as God could have done. But the consequences of their actions still have a ripple effect on all of us.

I believe it is simply a refernec to them becoming aware of themselves and not really a sin. We need an explanation for why humans are different from animals. And this "eating of the forbidden fruit" represents them becoming aware of their thoughts and being able to observe their thinking. If I have to guess though, I'd say the held up a liquor store while high on speed.

In my opinion, the primary sin was that God deliberately set them up. ANY parent knows that if you take a child and tell them that you have a wonderful grown-up thing that will make them smart and they HAD BETTER NOT TOUCH IT is in reality asking that child to disobey. I take that back, the worst sin was that your God took a spirit and forced it into a mortal existence and then tried to keep it as an ignorant pet!

They committed a mortal sin. A mortal sin is the worst sin you can commit. God made them in their image and they disgraced God by disobeying him. God did not punish them by death, but instead cast them out of a perfect place, therefore leaving them to exist in a not so perfect world.
To believe in Adam and Eve takes a bit of blind faith. We have no way of really knowing that they existed. I think the Church uses them as an example of what could happen to us if we disobey our parents, teachers, etc. Its an example for us to learn right from wrong, to keep us on the right path.
