Sometimes it is a bother, but really a lot of them are doing the best they can, trying to run their own errands and such.

First you have to define what "old" means. I don't think it's the age (up to a certain point) so much as the mental acuity of the individual driving. The biggest concern here is that of safety, and the ability of the driver to ensure that whatever actions he/she takes on the road does not endanger anyone else (driving or not) - including him/herself. An 80 year old, sober driver is generally going to be safer than an 18 year old drunk driver, or a 30 year old driver who hasn't slept for 24 hours. However, it's also more possible for an 80 year old driver to forget to check a blind spot when changing lanes or failing to accelerate with moving traffic (it's usually the relative difference in speed between cars that can cause problems more than the speed itself, assuming that the cars are still in control). So there's a lot of factors to consider and it all comes down to the ability of the driver to make judgements (which in turn depend on the quality of information they receive through their eyes and ears).
So to me, better drivers are the safer and courteous drivers who pay attention to the continually changing road and driving conditions and can react quickly if needed. There's no way to prepare for every possible road situation you will encounter, so you just need some common sense to ensure that your trip is as efficient and safe as possible. I can also bet that a lot more accidents can be reduced not by limiting the maximum age of drivers, but by switching the legal drinking and legal driving ages around. Once you know what it feels like to have been very drunk, you will probably think twice about getting into a car.

Well...as the highest number of deaths on the roads in my Country are young men between 17 & 25, and they are the same group who cause most accidents, I think we should cut overly cautious drivers a little slack. One day you too will be old. Do we legislate that you must drive fast?, do we take away your licence if you don't? Do we remove the ability for you to be able to visit your family and friends, or your church? I accept it's frustrating. I commute 500 miles a week, sometimes I get a bit fed up as I follow Fred & Mavis down a winding country road at 15 miles an hour but they could be my Grandparents and one day it will be me....and you.

lol u are so right i live in florida and florida is considered the state with the rudest drivers. thanx to the old people. we call them snow birds here lol or white heads. i think that we should all band together and demand that they retake their drivers tests at a certain age. i mean they tend to be horrid drivers. one almost rearened me tonight driving in west palm beach. they are dangerous. ok i got that off my chest it is good to know there are others who feel like me.

I'll assume you're serious. Old people have slower reflexes. So if they drive faster, they are more likely to suffer accidents. Besides, who knows how old we all are going to live to be?

Old farts shouldn't drive, end of story (unless they can pass a road test).
We test teens to see if they are ready to drive. Time to test those old geezers and see if they are still ready to drive.
