Unfortunately, NOTHING is permanent. A perm, depending on what type it is, and how long your hair was when it was permed, will last from 8 weeks to 4 months is average. If your hair is long and you perm it, you'll have curl for 1-2 years. You'll just have to get the top repermed when it gets to the point you can't stand seeing straight roots and curly ends.

If you have African American hair, then you want a jerri curl.

People have to remember though, a permed "curl" is different than a curling iron or hot roller "curl". Often people come in and see these gorgeous, big loopy curls and say they want their hair permed like that. Sorry, but more times than not, all those celebs you see wearing their hair that way, it is a roller or curling iron type set. If you try to perm it that way, you MIGHT get it to look that way, (IF you are very, very lucky) for a very, very short time (I'm talking caucasian hair.) I haven't worked enough with African American hair to know how it behaves with a "perm". Good luck!
