I need to start XP with a a previous save date (roll back the OS to a previous date?) I need to be able to use an old password that was reset a few days ago. Need step by step as I am a newbie.

rolling back likely wont fix the password...
but it's under the start menu 'programs > accessories > system tools > system restore'
follow the directions... all you do is choose a date and restart
