How do I get my Kitten to use the scratching post instead of my coach?

Play with her around it with her toys.
Put catnip on it.
Some cats on horizontal scratchers and some vertical. Get the opposite of whatever you have and see if she likes it.
Try moving it to a different location.
Try making large strips of double sided tape with packing tape and placing it where she is scratching that you don't want.

There are pet-aversion sprays - spray that on the couch, and rub catnip all over the scratching post -- they'll love it, and you will too!

If I were your coach, I'd simply kick the cat off of me when it tried to scratch me.

Hide around the corner where she can't see you and zap her **** with a water gun. In the face if possible. If you do it where she sees it's you, she won't scratch the couch when you are home, but when you leave, she will. If you hide, she won't know where the water is coming from and will be leary to do it at anytime.

There's a spray called "cat nip" you can get at a Petco. you pray it on the scrach post every day and your cat will like the smell and scrach the scraching post insted of the chouch.:)
