They are similar enough that American appliances will work in Canada. Canada has a slightly different plug, with one tang being slightly larger than other. However, US things will plug easily into Canadian sockets, although the reverse is not true. The voltages are exactly the same, so no converters are needed. The different plug is because Canada has higher standards for electrical things than the US (and consequently, less fires caused by electrical problems), and the Canadian plug helps with polarity issues by forcing the plugs to go in only one way.

Yes. Remember when the power went out a couple of years ago on the eastern seaboard. Canada got shut down in the hot weather too. It is because Canada was buying power from the US that they were shut down.

Household voltages are the same, so all the household appliances etc work in both countries. There may be some differences in industrial applications at voltages higher than 220 volts.
Both countries use 60 Hz (cycle) power.

Absolutely! You don't need adapters or any of those other odds and ends that you have to pack overseas. In fact, most Canadian electrical appliances come from the US, so you'll see a lot of familiar brand names up here.

Yep, things are pretty well interchangable between us. Your quarters even work in our vending machines. How's that for consistancy?

Yes. Our grids are actually connected together because we buy each other power.
